If you purchase one hamburger and then use your Star Trek replicator to make many more copies using your own raw materials and for your own personal use, the answer is yes.

I quite like classics, thought they do tend to get weary after a bit (just like everything does, really), at which time I tend to change gears to something else less... heady? I would hate to be in the shoes of someone who could not do so.

Well, as for that, it depends very much on where the person lives, doesn't it? Country, region, city, and all that. Someone living in, say, a developing latin american country, living among... illiterates, to put it kindly, can hardly ask for good books. There are a good many people who seem to fear books, astonishingly enough.

Libraries are a mercy, yes, provided you like what they have.

Books aren't expensive. They are cheaper than a ticket to a movie. Plus there are tens of thousands of books available for free, not just old public domain classics either.
