I'm sure I must have read this before, but not for many years.
Showing its age only a bit, an excellent tale. Well worth a re-read. The way Heinlein just drops bits in is unrivalled. Body phones. Emancipated teenagers. Great stuff.

Next: The Forerunner Factor by Andre Norton. Another from my recent Baen Monthly Bundle purchase.

I finished Roseanna by Sjöwall and Wahlöö some time ago, and have since read A for Anything by Damon Knight. Both books were solid but unspectacular. One's a police procedural, the other is dystopian sci-fi.

I'm starting on Leviathan Wakes by James Corey from the Hugo shortlist now, and I also accidentally read a good chunk of Bounce: The Myth of Talent by Matthew Syed this morning. The latter is a strange mix of inspiring and demoralising. It's about whether excellence is inherent or the result of hard work. (Spoiler: it's the second one. ) Basically, he seems to be saying that almost anyone can be world-class at anything (yay!) as long as they practise for ten years (boo!). It's a good read, though, so far.

- Climbing Mount Improbable by Richard Dawkins (25%)

Yup, easily her funniest book, and quite an enjoyable read. I highly recommend it.

I'm currently reading Aftershock & Others by F. Paul Wilson.

Quote:
The title novelette won the Bram Stoker Award and its companions touch on the past, present, and future—from the inflationary insanity of Weimar Germany (Aryans and Absinthe) to disco club–era Manhattan (When He Was Fab), to the rationing of medical services in a grim near future (Offshore). Wilson’s stylistic diversity and versatility are on display in stories that pay tribute to Ray Bradbury (The November Game), use a sentient killer virus as a point-of-view character (Lysing toward Bethlehem), and pay unabashed homage to pure pulp fiction in two yellow peril stories (Sex Slaves of the Dragon Tong and Part of the Game). And finally, Wilson treats us to his popular antihero Repairman Jack at his most inventive: trapped in a drugstore with four killers (Interlude at Duane’s).

Currently reading "Death comes to Pemberley", by PD James, her murder mystery sequel to Jane Austin's "Pride and Prejudice". It's an enjoyable read and pretty faithful to the style of the original, but why did she do it? I'd rather have another of her Adam Dalgleish books.

Cool Laurie R. King, Dana Stabenow and Earl Derr Biggers

I finished reading Killing Grounds followed by The Art of Detection and now I'm starting to read Behind That Curtain by Earl Derr Biggers. This is a novel included in the Charlie Chan Omnibus available in Mobileread's Patricia Clark Memorial Library.

Mario Puzo's The Godfather.

One's enough for me. I don't understand how people can have 2 or 3 or more on the go!

I tend to agree. Though I do have three on the go, the way I manage this is:

1 novel
1 audiobook when travelling
1 non-fiction book

This keeps them all fairly well separated in my mind, as long as the novel and audiobook are similar genres/themes, which I try to ensure are different.

I do it with different genres. I read one thriller/mystery, one philosophy book, and either a science or history book.

I usually have at least three on the go, one on the Ipod which is tiny and fits into any bag, an audiobook and another on the ereader or a "real" book.
