Living monarchs only, Sneaky. But yes, Victoria's still ahead of Elizabeth so far (I suspect the current queen will overtake her record).

I guessed based on the age of his eldest daughter and heir. She's probably close to 40.

He still here, and still a direct descendent of Amaterastsuomikami, the Sun Goddess. Once a year he ventures out of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo to visit her shrine located about 3 hours ride from here.

I forgot about him... He really doesn't stand out the way the Thai king does...
He's Akihito to English speakers but usually referred to as just 'Tenno.' I guess he's been on the throne for as long as I've been in Japan... about 23-24 year?

EDIT: I just took a look at an electric bill... He's been in place for 23 years! The Japanese use two methods for counting the years; Gregorian for one, but how many years the current Tenno has been on the throne for the other. The date on my electric bill was 23-5-15.

The British used to use reign for dates, too. I have some old wills with dates like Anne 2.
