Hi everyone

I am new to this so forgive.

I bought a Sony 505 while in the states last year but have not been able to buy from the SOny website due to their incredible "Only in N America" rules.

I was about to throw away the reader when I came across FIcitonwise and this forum. I have downloaded Calibre and am converting books from Gutenberg.

I have also found Feedbooks and all these sites mean I now have about 100 books on the reader.

Maybe Sony will free up their site as I am willing to pay but I am not holding my breath.

Nah, it's better not to underestimate the power of corporate stupidity.

However .... welcome to the forum, and may you find lots of books in the format you need here.

What do Sony's gift cards get me? Can I download with them?

I have a good friend in Boston who could download stuff and send it to me but my Reader has to be authorised

Yes... you could use the eBook store and purchase against your gift card balance. I have bought cards for several people that are outside of the US.

Right, as you said, if you have a friend that will share an account with you you can authorize your reader to his account and that will work. You could even download the stuff directly (I'm pretty sure) assuming he will give you the password. Your friend could also buy the giftcard for you. I do charge a small fee for my time.
