Umm, you'll probably be disappointed b/c no kindle has had a card slot. If they're going to add a SD slot, it will be in the Fire, which isn't eink. I want a better eink screen, but nobody is listening |

If you mean higher contrast, eInk Corporation engineers surely have been trying to come up with something better than eInk Pearl. They just haven't been succeeding. There are of course color eInk displays, so far sold mostly in Asia, but from the reviews I have seen, they are no better than eInk Pearl for black and white applications.

Almost all of the books I read are black ink on white paper anyway, so the current pearl displays for ebooks suit me just fine. .... Whoops, forgot the colour covers.... |

I want a hi-res reader with a plastic backing so the screen can't easily be broken and the higher resolution will make the screen look better.

I hope I never have to buy a new reader. My reader does exactly what I want it to do, display text, accept flash and not much else. Although when color e-ink tablets become affordable I might have give in and spend. |

I can understand why people wanted SD card slots circa the Kindle 1, when on board space was so much less. But now, with the eink devices up to 4 gigs... why is more space desirable, unless you read a lot of huge PDFs and listen to a lot of audiobooks -- in which case you might be happier with a tablet anyway? By all indications, if you filled up a Kindle with enough mobi books to occupy 4 gigs, the OS would slow down so much that it would be hard to use. This would only be worse if you added another 4 or 8 gigs via an SD card.

For years now, none of the ereaders have had firmware that can cope with a reader loaded to capacity with ebooks. Waiting for the one with a nightlight isn't going to fix that; the manufacturers are pushing lights-and-video much more than better book support. | |
