I'm currently thinking if they (esp the new cores) are worth to "early adopt" purchase them for 0 bucks before their values in the database change

I kinda wondered the same, so "bought" a couple of the new assets to see what'll happen to them later.

I have no idea. I acquired a few whack protect items; I only get whacks about every other cycle, so maybe they help? OTOH, they don't stop the Crows.

Maybe they protect my assets if I actually took whacks, which I don't except for Crows.

AFAIR an older entry in the bar said, that the whack protection property of assets isn't in use
(there are several older items carrying this flag), dunno, if this has changed. however bob wrote nothing about such effects in the new update.

I haven't because apart from the 2 new cores' (one militaryish the other energy) the new buildings are energy centric. would I buy enough of every new them to have them in stock when they become active and as such should be moved to the quickcharge slots (don't forget you pay for moving too!) I'd have to flatten a lot of ansibles which in the meantime spit out nice bucks per cycle ammounts.
so no opportunity to save on that - rather the contrary.

You'll be able to get to level 5 and get a free book that way before you can get one from adding 20 allies. 20 allies takes about 1 million Baen Bucks, which is a lot at first but no big deal by L10 or so.

Everybody runs with an energy deficit all the time, and jumping levels almost always mean running behind on energy.

You need [population x level] in energy--which means that when you go up levels, you immediately need [population] more energy points.

I am trying an experiment with extra bliss to cover the cost and am currently just over 1 million energy points in the hole.

... I am so sunk.

I'm actually running a surplus of over 300,000 Energy above my base need. But then I keep a small population.

And frabjous day, callooh callay, it turns out that you can rid yourself of excess Bliss to the tune of up to 20% by adjusting your political alignment (limit of once per cycle), provided you're willing to lose the same % of Bucks. Best done after levelling or allying or moving/buying stuff, but so far I've managed to dump a full 80,000 of my surplus Bliss today. Only 60,000 more to go!

I'm gonna see if I can get stable income of more than 10m per cycle. Right now, I'm at just over 6m, but I can't call that stable with a million-point energy deficit.

Lessee, at 22,550 energy per reactor, x 5/cycle, it'll take me... 10 cycles to catch up? Ouch. And then I'll be ready to jump to 19th level, and play it all over again! Count on 13-14 cycles (because I'll be asleep for some of them, unable to surge for more energy & will just take a bliss hit).

Uh, time to make those ansibles earn their keep?

Apparently one of the planned updates for tomorrow is allowing a 1-cycle carryover of unused surge points, so maybe that cuts it down to 7 cycles if you can get by on just under 8 hours sleep (and maybe naps)?

I've been deliberately running a mild energy deficit of 1% to 5%, trying to lose some Bliss, but my people are just unreasonably happy. Of course, my population seems to be smaller than average, so I've been building it up the past few cycles.

Introduce some political unrest and if you do it right, their happiness will decrease by 20% per cycle.

I've got roughly 14,000 pop and they're all thoroughly stoned 5x over (but down from 10x over earlier this morning).

They're also extremely well-fed, illuminated, and protected and I don't particularly want to add all that much to their number to redistribute their overwhelming Bliss, as it seems like it's the players with the large populations who keep getting into the deficits and that just sounds like too much stress having to plan surges and beg for gifts to keep up.

There's probably some kind of life lesson in that.
