AAARRRGGGHHH!

hi
newly arrived. i need help. i have been researching readers and decided to go with the Sony. I had everything under control, all my ducks in a row, and found one one on ebay. Bought it and realized I had bought a 500 and not a 505. I have not opened it. Will I be disappointed? Is there a vast difference betwixt the two? I am bumming...all that work I did. any help vastly appreciated...THANKS!

Welcome, naseller. I've had my 500 for almost a year and love it. I've seen a 505 and I like it mainly because the background is a bit whiter than the more grey 500's background, so it's a bit easier to read on a 505. The 505 is also a bit thinner but the same weight as the 500. Aside from those two things, the differences would be pretty inconsequential to me. There's talk of a coming firmware upgrade that might be available only for the 505 and not the 500 but that's not certain and it's hard to know if it will be particularly beneficial or not.

Hi naseller and welcome to the Forum. I was all set to get a 500 for my birthday last year when the gift certificate I was expecting turned out to be a new pair of shirts. So I stalled around then got the 505 back in January. I like it a lot but, having fooled around with teh 500 a lot, I don't think you're missing much at all. Enjoy!

Functionally, the 500 and 505 are very similar. The main difference is the screen - the 500 has a 1st generation eInk screen; the 505 has a 2nd generation "VizPlex" screen which is much better - enormously more readable in low light levels, and virtually immune to the "ghosting" that 1st gen screens suffer from.

The 500 is a very good reader, but the 505 is even better.
