I'd get a lighted Kindle. I like taking my Kindle to the gym, and the lighting is poor there. The lighted cover helps some, but the light could be brighter. The light works great at night when I am in the dark, and the screen is the only thing that is lit, but at the gym there is light shining from other spots, and the light on the Kindle screen is very uneven. I have to up the font size quite a bit so I can make out the words.

I'd love to see a lighted Kindle Touch, but not if it means the same contrast and sharpness issues that the Nook Glow-Light has. If Amazon can do it without reducing visual clarity I will pre-order.
I sold my Fire because I realized it was sitting on the end table in my living room on the charger and I was never really using it. My iPad gets tablet duty in my life, and while I love my Kindle Touch, it doesn't get as much reading use because I tend to read in bed after the wife has gone to sleep, and every light I have tried for the Kindle bothers her, but the brightness of my iPad doesn't.
A lighted Kindle would save me the weight of the iPad and increase comfort for night-time reading greatly.

I have a K3 and not going to change until lighted kindle is available. The Nook Glow is definitely attractive. But the idea of converting the format of books purchased from amazon is a deterrent.

Yes, I agree with flowerprint. I like my K3 in its m-Edge cover with the battery operated light well enough for low light conditions. Until Amazon comes out with a glow light and all the features I want (wifi + 3G + page turning buttons) I will not buy anything else.

There does seem to be a significant issue with the Nook, in that the light diffuser is easily scratched, resulting in unevenness in the lighting. That doesn't sound very desirable!

so far that "significant issue" has been reported one time (by a blogger who may have just been trolling for hits).

crazy to see how some ideas take hold and spread

A number of people on the Nook forum seem to have experienced the issue; that's where I read about it, not on a blog.

I recommend you wait for some times. I bought the Kindle Touch in last December. Although I don't have much to complain about it, the glowing Nook indeed shocked me. I am sure Amazon would release a glowing kindle recently.

I have already decided to buy one.... I just could not resist the glowing lure.

a number of people on the Nook forum (which I also read) have referenced (directly or indirectly) the one incident reported in that blog. Have seen zero reports of it actually happening to an MRer or anyone else not employed with engadget.

Good - that's reassuring. Thank you for the clarification.

It would be difficult for me to switch to Nook after using Kindle for such a long time, unless Nook found a way for people to read Kindle Cloud Reader from the Nook... in an easy way.

I have a book lite but seldom use it, I think it makes my eyes a bit tense... just switch on your light, ask your partner to read a book together, ha!

I think I would just buy one if I really want to read ebooks on e-ink instead of waiting.

Kindle is pretty cheap and if you really read, you can end up saving money indeed.
