Well I'm not you, so I can't say
You could go into an Apple store and have a play with an iPad 2 and an iPad 3. The iPad 2 is a 1024x768 screen.

Depends on how big the text are. On an iPad 2 (1024x768), I have to zoom in on some panels with tiny text captions. On the iPad 3, I can read most stuff without zooming in regardless of orientation. The iPad 3's resolution (1536x2048 in portrait) is a bit overkill with a lot of existing content, though. Most source material don't come near that high a resolution. For example, the Nook Comics I have are 1200x1800 - practically a perfect fit for the Transformer Infinity's 1200x1920 resolution after you take into account the top and bottom status bar/menu.

In what way do you consider it to be "limited"? There is an excellent reason that Apple dominate the tablet market; the iPad really is an extremely fine product.

It is a wonderful product no doubt it. But still the whole Ituens system and the limitations of flash and all(if I buy a Ipad It's more of a tablet then a reader).

  1. You're locked to iTunes for apps but there are a lot more tablet-optimized apps on iTunes than there are on Google Play. Music, videos, ebooks, etc, you can easily sideload and can pretty much choose whichever vendor you're most comfortable with.
  2. While Flash support sounds good in theory, in practice, all it means is being inundated with even more annoying ads and having your browser crash on you every couple of minutes. I have Flash disabled on my Android tablets and smartphones. Heck, if not for YouTube and a couple of gaming sites, I wouldn't even bother installing Flash on my desktop.
There are a lot of things where I prefer Android's approach but there's a reason why the iPad is still the most popular consumer-oriented tablet out there. Sure, there are limitations in software but there are often workarounds for that. The most annoying thing about the iPad are the hardware limitations. The iPad's far from perfect but for now, it's still better than the competition.

Well I guess my only doubt is which version? I mean, the Ipad 3 Screen is nice and all but the question is isn't the res on the Ipad 3 is a bit of an overkill?(for comics)

If you're reading in portrait mode, yes it's a bit overkill as few content can max out the iPad 3's resolution. It's perfect for landscape mode/double page spreads, though. However, a lot of the comics I've tried (usually 1000x1500 to 1200x1800) still look way better on the iPad 3 even in portrait. The iPad and iPad 2's 1024x768 resolution is just way too low for comfortable reading.

If you're willing to wait, Android tablets with higher resolutions should be available later this year. For comics, the SD card slot on most Android tabs should be quite useful.

You could easily go either way here.

If you are buying it for comics, then the higher res screen makes the iPad3 undoubtedly a better product than the iPad2. Comics were the main reason I upgraded to the new iPad. Whether it is worth the extra money is obviously a personal decision.

The higher resolution screen also makes it much better for reading books on; text is a lot smoother and crisper in appearance. It's a "win" in every way.
