Thanks to some cool people at this Forum, depending on where you live, you can download ebooks from your online library. Free is a great price for books if you're an avid reader.

I actually sent flybywire here from the Amazon forums to get input on other devices. I made it known my suggested choice was the Kindle.

The Kindle will not read Library eBooks without removing the DRM or diddling with the DRM.

I think that might have been a typo. Maybe "your" was meant to be "our" as in the MobileRead library of books. Leep?

Of course, if flybywire lives near a Borders or a SonyStyle, then it is entirely possible to get a PRS-505 before the trip on Sunday and to go play here in the E-Books section of the forum to download content to load up and read whil on the trip. And if you want an AC adapter for the 505, then just get a PSP type (with the barrel plug) that will work where you need it to work.

Call before trying to buy a Sony at Borders. The Borders local to me doesn't carry them. I stopped in at another not in my area and asked to see one, they didn't carry them either.

Even call SonyStyle if you have one. Just to be sure there is a 505 in stock and if so, have them hold it for you.

The Iliad is expensive but that really won't deter a purchase and it can do anything, the Sony seems good, the Cybook reads so many formats but the Kindle seems to be a bit of everything? Could you guys give me some advice or direction concerning these devices? I would buy the Kindle today actually-would love it for my trip to the Orient this coming Sunday.
What kind of books to you tend to read? More for pleasure or for work? Is most of your travel within the U.S.?

Cool job! Well it seems you have a lot of people who could tell you about the Sony but you are still are looking beyond what you've seen. Is there something you feel the Sony couldn't provide that another device would?

If you're flying out of LAX, I'd be happy you show off my Kindle. Or as has been suggested, order a Kindle and try it for 30 days.

I am so very impressed with all of the people here in this forum. Due to the wonderful response here I have placed the Kindle in my shopping cart but haven't pulled the lever yet.

I am looking around the web at information for a possible Kindle 2 version...thinking the second gerneration will have alot of kinks worked out.

I don't have any foreknowledge, but I highly doubt this would happen this year.

Yay! Just so you know Bezos has stated that the next generation Kindle is not close. In this thread on the Amazon forums, someone said they talked to someone working on the next Kindle who said not to expect it before Christmas of 2009. I don't know how accurate that is.

With Igorsk's Kindlefix, which I understand does not remove the drm, I am able to read ebooks from my library on my Kindle just fine.
