You don't have to touch it. You have to penetrate the infrared sensors gliding just over the top of it.

So, if you had a plastic slip with just a touch of firmness to it, it should work with no problem.

In theory yes - but doesn't work as this is what the proporta does

Wouldn't a stylus help? Not a capacitive one but a hard-tip one like you get with the Sony touch?

I'll try it and let you know, I dont think the touch is sensitive enough to go through perspex plastic

Indeed, but I want something that is waterproof while allowing you to read and turn pages

Just how waterproof does it need to be? If it's to avoid drops and minor spillage wouldn't a ziplock freezer bag (well sealed and water-tested) work? I can understand though that if it is because it could be submerged that that wouldn't be enough though...

Scratch those ideas... Just tried with my Sony and the stylus only works about 1 time out of 5 when the screen is covered with a freezer bag.... I could still use it that way once the book is open because it has page turn buttons but the Kobo doesn't.
My tablets (Kobo Vox and Galaxy Tab), on the other hand work great in the bag with either a stylus or my finger...

Thanks for posting your question though! Next time I'm hanging out poolside I'll make sure I have a bag so I can get off the lounge chair and read in the water at the pools edge!

Can't believe that hadn't occurred to me yet!
