Defective battery?

I bought a Kobo Touch last week. I'm quite happy with the device functionality-wise, but it only lasts two days on a full charge. This is with wifi and sleep mode on.

I've only read "Through the looking glass" and "Frankenstein" and I'm currently charging the unit for the fourth time... Is this normal? If not, is there anything I can try or is this unit defective?

I'm currently testing with wifi disabled to see how much of a difference that makes...

How many hours a day do you read? Are you using the latest firmware?

It could be that the the battery just needs to calibrate. Run through a few more charge discharge cycles and if you are still getting poor battery life you might have a bad battery. I was away for a week last month and I easily got through the entire week reading very heavily without recharging.

I'm using the latest firmware. I think I'm getting about 5 or 6 reading hours out of a full charge (with wifi on and using sleep mode over the course of two days). I did not use the browser or anything like that, the only wifi use would be the bookmark syncing it does automatically when it goes to sleep. In terms of page turns I estimate about 500-600 (a far cry from the advertised 10000).

Even if you're not "using" wi-fi, having it on will drain the battery. As will keeping your device on sleep mode as opposed to turning it off. But despite all that, 5-6 hours of use and 2 days of standby seem unusually low.

I have my device on airplane mode, 1-2 hours of use a day, sleep after 30 mins and off after 1 hour and it probably lasts around a month if I had to guess.

The battery just died again (this time the unit was in airplane mode the whole time). I used reading life to get more accurate data. The battery died after roughly 4 hours of reading and 400 pages.

I think I will do a factory reset to see if that does any good, if not, I'm taking the thing back.

As does mine. I've prolly only charged it 6-8 times since I got it for

I suggest powering off when not in use, and see how long it lasts then.

Did you charge it full the 1st time you charged it?

Do you have an SD card in it? I have a feeling from other posts that SD cards might shorten battery life.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Good idea! I do not have an SD in mine and get great battery life.

I also make sure I charge it completely every charge.

Yes, SD card with lots of books shortens battery life. I think it's not just SD card drawing more power. Problem is more the large book collection with large data base KT has to deal with.

I charged it when I first got it.

I'm not using an SD card, in fact I only put 4 books on the kobo.

before my KT broke down [which still hasn't been sorted, 3 weeks now ], my battery was lasting about 2 weeks using it for 3/4 hours a day...in the 3 months it was working, i only charged it about 4 times and must have read 25 books
