Google books....
I'm confused - I already was, as I couldn't find out if Google Bks had "abandoned" Sony readers, despite there being a "Google Books" button on the T1.
But having no joy re: Sony, I went general, and just probed the G. Bks site, poked around a bit, processed to the Harry Potter bit there - to find :- "Now you're ready to read your favourite Harry Potter books on the web, phone or tablet. " No mention of readers of any sort. A bit more digging brought the info :- "eReaders and other devices :- To read on e-ink devices like the Sony eReader or Barnes & Noble Nook, you'll need to download a file and transfer it to your device. Please follow the detailed Help center instructions to transfer the files to supported eReaders. Download ePub". Has this always been the situation, or have they just decided the ereader market doesn't warrant to many tie-ins etc.. and given up anything more involved ? A few people have asked me - and not being much of a user of either Google or SonyStore - well, not at all actually - I had to dig, hence my ignorance. Anyone enlighten me ? I don't know if the Google Books button on the T1 ever worked in the UK. However, in the US, it accessed the public domain books on Google and not the for-sale books. Google recently restructured their bookstore. Now, you have to download books (whether public domain or for-sale) through "Google Play" which is Google's new digital media store for books, music, videos and Android apps. Sony disabled the button on the T1 and eliminated the links to Google at their e-bookstore when Google Play went live.

Finding the download button for ePub on Google has gotten a lot more labyrinthine since they switched, too. I about tore my hair out trying to figure out how to download a book I BOUGHT.
It wasn't broke. I don't understand why the had to 'fix' it. ![]() |

Yes, I went kind of crazy after purchasing my first/only book from Google Books and thought I couldn't download it. What a pain. I've not been back to purchase others.

So how did download an ePub? The ePub and PDF icons do not appear (unless it is a book I bought pre-Google Play), even when books have "flowing text". Google support has not yet given me an answer. I look forward to learning your workaround!

When you go to google play is it in your bookshelf? Click on the book cover and hopefully it brings up the book details page, on the book details page there are 3 or 4 tabs "Overview","Reviews","How to read" click the How to read tab and scroll to the bottom there should 2 large icons Download Epub, Download PDF

That's what mystifies me! When I go to the "how to read" tab, there are no icons for ePub and PDF under the "ereaders and other devices". The only exceptions are for books I have previously purchased. I feel like I've been singled out and not allowed ePub access.

That's really strange the only books I have are post google play and they all have the epub option. I haven't found there help or customer support very helpful in the past so hopefully someone will come along who can help better than I. Perhaps list a few of the books you're having trouble with someone else may have the same title

Thanks for the offer of checking your "how to Read" against mine. Here are just a few that were on my wishlist and had been ePub.
(One possibility that just occurred to me is that ePub & PDF may no longer be available in Canada, where I live.)
