I just found this thread from here:

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...79#post2072679

I don't even know how many ebooks I have, I haven't actually counted. I get a lot of freebies. Actually, the Sony book store has a lot, and it's more easily searchable than Kobo's. Most of my books are in my Sony Library on my laptop, as well as on my eReaders, but I've also downloaded directly to my Vox from my Mantano (sp?) app. If it's a book I know I'm only going to read once and if I can do so within 2 weeks, I check my library first and download it to Overdrive.

I try to use Kobo's discount coupons, but they can't be used on many of the books I want, so I have bitten the bullet and paid full price. This weekend, when doing that I decided I would set a $20/month limit on my ebook buying. We'll see how that goes.

Welcome to the thread. My feeling is the free ebooks don't count, so don't feel bad about getting freebies.

It's a good idea (IMO) to keep a list (in some way) of the unread books you've got, so you can quickly look through the list to choose your next book.

I'm trying not to buy ebooks at the moment, unless they're from a favourite author/series or on my wishlist and at a good discount.

But good Kobo discount codes, especially expiring ones, are getting me to buy. Most recently, David Weber's Out of the Dark.

I am in awe. I would be so happy if I could get my TBR down to 330. You actually have a possibility of reading it all at some point!

Well, I don't expect to get it to zero. But if I can get it down to and keep it at 25-50 or so I'll be happy.

Perhaps sometime in 2015...

I only ever buy stuff on deep discount sale or other very-time-limited special offer for things I'm reasonably sure I actually want to take the time to read (if only out of sheer morbid curiosity some times, but then I try to do that for free).

But then I'm really cheap and have enough stuff e- and paper- to keep me occupied for a rather long time, so anything "new" had better have a really compelling reason for me to acquire it right at the moment.

Thus far I'm at 50 paid e-book purchases read this year, of which 39 were titles I'd never read before in any format. (I also ended up buying a bunch of books on sale due to having read some freebies as well, though.)

Only a few hundred more to go!

Ok, I counted. 115 purchased books this year so far.

The most common price was $0.99 from Amazon Daily Deals (30 Ed McBain books, for instance), Poisoned Pen Press monthly sales, and the occasional first-in-series books or ebook month sales. Only 5 were full priced agency books (2 were books a friend wrote, 2 were for a bookclub, 1 was a reward after using 90% coupons at Kobo). The mid-priced ones were either publisher sales at $3.99 and under or Kobo coupon purchases.

I'm not going broke buying books at an average price of around $2. Now to read them. Since a few were purchased as gifts for my husband and/or father, my books from the haul are around 80. This past weekend I relocated to my summer cabin and I expect to burn through 100 books before the snow flies, so I'm all set. Assuming there are no more sales and I stop buying books. Yeah, that's likely.

Since I bought my T1 in early January, I have purchased a total of 52 books at an average cost of $1.97.

The 12 books over $2.00 were authors I had read previously and knew I would like their books, with one exception. The only exception was my error when trying to use a coupon code at Sony.

Sigh .... my TBR slush pile has assumed a monstrous size .... I dare not count it any more .... When asked, I just shake my head sorrowfully and reply "Lots" .... My Kindle is full .... and then some ....

I must stop reading the NYT Book Review! Sunday's edition had 4 books that I want to read NOW! Really good books!

Today I seriously considered buying yet another Kindle and "starting over" with just 1 or 2 books on it. I stopped myself .... but did think about it ....

Do I need help?

I'm just signing up to this thread too. I haven't physically counted my TBR books, but I would guess that I have 150-200 paper books, 6 just-purchased ebooks plus about 300 free ebooks from the MR library and other providers of public domain books. And I still have about $A20 left on a Kobo gift voucher, so that should be good for a couple more ebooks.

The trouble is that everyone knows how much I love reading, and with a recent wedding anniversary followed by my birthday, I was given a total of 10 paper books and the Kobo voucher. So it's all the fault of my family and friends!

(It doesn't sound as if I have really taken responsibility for my addiction, does it?)

Kobo coupons and the Ed McBain sale earlier in the year completely messed up my TBR Pile.
Thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

I must admit that if the Ed McBain sale had been available in the UK, I suspect my TBR would be up about 400 again. That kind of deal doesn't come around too often.

I'm still only about half way through the set of Agatha Christie mysteries that I bought in a Fictionwise sale a couple of years ago. And only one dud in the first forty - an extremely good ratio!

I was feeling all pleased with myself last night, when I realised I might have made it through 24 hours without downloading any ebooks.*

Then I remembered that I'd bought a paperback at lunchtime. Sigh. (It was an import, and not available as an ebook.)

*To be fair, they have almost all been freebies, lately. Probably because there hasn't been a good Kindle sale. There are a couple of things I've got my eye on, but they aren't going anywhere, so there's no rush.
