This wouldn't work for me when I substituted au for ca, but it worked with ca!
So if others can't make it work, try using the code as given above.

There's another code just for the weekend I think:

which gives 30% off selected books. I used it on a book I had planned to get anyway ("Death Comes to Pemberley") though I did notice that this was showing as $A1 more than it was when I looked it up a few days ago. Maybe put the price up a bit and then give a discount is normal practice?

The publishers generally are the ones that increase/decrease prices, with Kobo choosing a discount percentage for those books that can be discounted. The various coupons/discount codes are on top of that. There are almost always discount codes of one kind or another available.

disappointed this is only on selected books again (not taking a chance on books over £5 with discount from authors I have never read before)

couple of non agency books i wanted but the code is not valid on them
