Radiation Shield is your best bang-for-buck until you get to Thorium Reactors at level 9. Put some on quickcharge spots.

Make sure you have military equal to at least 20% of your Bliss, because Whacks cost Military based on a percentage of Bliss. (Usually 1%; a few are 5%.) Make sure you have extra--and don't hesitate to ask around if you're short; military gifts are common. Bliss gifts are *very* common; almost everyone has Bliss to offload.

Hm. Are there any negatives to building a large standing army? Not that I want to pull surge points away from energy-and-pop, but I could potentially build up a large number of military for things like that.

(Also, note to self: if possible, save [Level] surge points until the last twenty minutes of the cycle, in order to spend them on whatever resources it takes to cover weird problems.)

I used to try it, but it ended up taking up much more of my Military than actually paying them off.

Possibly there may be whacks which are paid off in % of Military you already have, rather than Military calculated upon Bliss. I'm pretty sure I've been hit with them before.

At level 4, buy a whole bunch of Radiation Shields and put them on the Quick Charge squares if you haven't already. They give you 550 energy per surge, and if you've got 8 and manage to surge each batch at least once a day, then you'll get 4400 Energy per day and still have 4 points left per cycle over to surge anything else you might need.

Assuming you can stick around for 2 cycles today, that will reduce your energy deficit considerably, and cashing in a couple of Energy gifts will help take care of the rest. Buying stuff will also increase your Bliss, and if you finish the Tin Pan Alley project for L4, IIRC, then you get an L5 asset which can be surged for 900 Bliss in emergencies.

Use what bucks you have to buy energy--{HandyNuke Go-n-Glow}Radiation Shields for level 4--place them on the quick charge squares then surge them every time you can.

I was in the positive until this cycle. I made a BIG boo-boo somewhere . I plan to invest in lots of energy during the next cycle.

I got the nice 900 Bliss asset. So far, Bliss hasn't been a problem.

Most likely you surged a population asset. In my freehold 1 unit of population needs 8 units of energy and produces 8 units of bucks.

Yep, that's what happened. I will wait to build up energy before I try that again.

yes whack costs can be based on anything
this new whack based on % of bucks are the food eating crows
as far as i read literally (yes literally) no one fights it. they go replace the food because later on when you hoard scores of millions of money you d never build up an army of 15% of that. just think... you amassed about 65 millions that d mean you d need about 10 millions army for one single whack - no noe tries

During this cycle, I purchased several Radiation Shields and received a couple of gifts from DHNightshadow (Mercurius) and gbm . As a result, I decreased the potential bliss loss from 42% to 5%. Major crisis averted for now.

You may want to wait before leveling up (not just rushing, just because you have the bucks).

On the other hand, low energy can be good - get rid of excess bliss, which means less military costs.

Right now, I'm running -163,676 on energy (and only bleeding off 7% per cycle). I'll probably run a couple of cycles surging only energy to catch up (adding 12,000+ people at once was a bit of a strain on resources).

You got off light. I can't ever pay off the crows, so just have to take their whack (last time, they wanted 132K+ military).

You can spend down before trying to pay off (change up any assets you want, pay to get allies, level up, etc - if you spend down enough, the whack isn't that bad).
