Just because Amazon doesn't collect sales tax, that doesn't mean you don't have to pay it. In most places in the US by law you are required to personally pay sales tax not charged by retailers. Specifics vary by location of course.

Now, everybody who voluntarily pays their sales taxes to the states for online purchases that weren't taxed, raise your hands.

I actually think I should get refunded by the state for ever online sale I make. Less resources for me going out to purchase a product than for me to just have it delivered.

For sure, there is money involved here and we're talking about LOT of money.

To me, what this truly means is that Apple, somehow, is afraid of the small Kindle Fire success. Yes, not an iPad but has sold a bunch since it came out and started selling on Target and online.

I honestly do not care too much but believe Walmart is still selling those (for those interested on getting one there)

It would be interesting to see, what's Amazon next step. Because having mortar brick store presence is actually a good thing. Some people like that human interaction or really check the device prior online purchase. Without Target, I guess that only big presence for Kindle will be Walmart. Unless they plan to ship to "Fiesta Market" or "Kroger", or even "HEB", some groceries stores we do have in Texas, hahaha... That would be funny seeing the Kindle close to the papaya or apple island.

I doubt apple is afraid of the kindle fire. Amazon won't even talk about how many they have sold, which I'm sure is more than any other similiarly sized tablet.

The move is related to Apple's presence on Target. Kindle's presence on same store may bother them somehow. If that was not the case, they would not bother on pushing such move. Unless is coming directly from Target stores, which is a retailer anyway.

Another reason, which makes more sense to me, is the "try at the store, buy later online" phenomenon, which we all know is now impacting Best Buy as well. Lot of people go to Target, try at the store, and later buy online for a bit less. That gives no money to the retail store which on this case, is Target.

Wait who is pushing the move? Has there been any mention of apple saying directly that they don't want kindles there? Has target said they were "asked" to remove kindles by apple for a nice chunk of change?

I read another article pointing to Apple, yes ... of course, none of those companies want or will provide names or true reasons.

They still have to sell them at Apple's pricing, but they get around it by bundling in free gift cards.

Last Black Friday, Best Buy was selling the 8GB iPod touch 4 for $195 w/ a free $50 gift card.

Last Feb, Walmart was selling the Kindle Fire for $199 w/ a free $50 gift card. And currently, Walmart is selling the Kindle NT for $79 w/ a free $30 gift card.
