I appreciate this. I've used one or the other from time to time and it really is convenient. Especially if I am reading a book in landscape mode. (and I love the option of being able to read a book in landscape mode. Some library books often seem to read better that way).

As a former kobo but now T1 owner, I can testify to that working really well. I was thrilled that I could re-download my kobo books onto my Sony. I had amassed a ton of freebies as well as the ones I bought, and wanted to keep them.

There are two good ways of keeping tabs of it:
- sign up with Kobobooks.com and watch your email - subscribe to the Mobileread.com Kobobooks.com Discount Codes thread Either way, I'd read up on sideloading books into your Sony first to make sure you know how to do it, can do it, and want to do it. If all systems are go logistically, you can save money doing it. |

Yes, that's probably it. I tend to use the buttons - don't like fingerprints on the screen! - but it's obviously personal preference, and I can see tap might be better for people with restricted movement.

I'm facing the same dilemma - Kobo touch or Sony T1. I like the Kindle touch but dont like the price differential between UK and US for the hardware, I'm in the Uk. I also dont like the fact that you can't link to libraries in the UK with kindle which is short sighted of Amazon, I want a reader that let's me download library books easily and the Sony wins that competition as you don't need a PC to do it. Why buy a reader that doesn't let you borrow library books for free! Sort it out Amazon.
I prefer the form factor, UI and non reflective bezel of the Kobo, but having played with both the touch screens the Kobo seems a bit flakey compared to the Sony - can anyone confirm this? If they were the same price I would buy the Sony for the convemience of on device library book downloads, but there is a £50 price difference so the Kobo would appear better value. Anyone have experience of getting library books onto a kobo? As a traveller I like the fact that I could be at any airport in the world and download a library book to the Sony from my local library that has a great selection of ebooks - but is this convenience worth £50 when I could realistically just put them on a Kobo before I leave the UK. Is the Sony touch screen more responsive that the Kobo as it appears to be in my tests with demo versions? The Kobo wins on settings in a book, fonts, margins, justification etc... And also let's you configure refresh rate which the Sony doesn't - it also has tap to turn rather than swipe, although it doesn't take much to swipe the Sony so not a deal breaker for me - I also understand there is a simple way to get the Sony to tap page turn - can anyone point me in the right direction on this. Any advice, experiences with either device much appreciated. |

Also, does anyone know if Kobo have on device upload of library books on their firmware roadmap?

You can use the Kobo Touch browser to get your library books wirelessly fairly easily, as well as your own library (locally) from Calibre if you use it as your catalogue.
I also find the Sony touch-screen slightly more responsive but the Kobo is OK, my daughter has one and loves it. Kobo is at $99.99 right now in Canada + a free gel-skin for Mother's Day. Perhaps they have a similar offer on the UK Site right now? |

That's right. Any ereader with a browser would be able to do that... Assuming you have a good wireless connection.

Browsing the Overdrive library website with a 6" eink device is my idea of torture, so you'll probably at least want to use your computer to find books and put them on your wish and hold lists. If it's important to you that the step of checking out and downloading the books happens on the eReader, then get a Sony. Otherwise, downloading the books to your computer and transferring them to a Kobo is a very simple task. |

An ACSM file is just a download link, not a book. |
