It looks like the straps might be in the way the buttons on the sides.

Received new cover, following of my previous gecko blue luxe
As the first time, please, excuse my poor english. This time, it is the real leather version, available in three colors at a price of € 29.95 including postage: http://www.geckocovers.com/sony-read...ther-p-88.html Mine is black. I hope you will forgive the poor quality pictures, with only compact camera on hand First thing: it arrived very quickly, within days after the mailing. As the last review : designed in Holland but made in China ... :/ ![]() Out of package: no more disappointment this time. The last one left me feeling "cheap". This time, it's real leather, well made. ![]() ![]() ![]() Can not easily tell what is leather and what is not. It seems to me: the outside is all leather: shiny and suede. Inside, a velvet lining identical to the other cover. Not look the best in my opinion, but to use, it's pretty good. I doubt that the part around screen is real leather, although it seems there is a coating "faux lather" (is gecko confirm?): ![]() Very good point: no tab. Once closed, four small magnets hidden away (in fact, we see them anyway, and I think we should see even more with wear) allow coverage (pretty harder than the luxe version) to keep fully closed. It's very easy to open and close, and no annoying tab during playback. Unlike the old version, no small pocket on the cover to slide my map of Westeros. Too bad, it was convenient. The Reader takes this time in the bag thanks to friction: more small Velcro flap this time. However, it seems to fit perfectly. ![]() As in the luxe version, once in the cover, the reader is securely packed, well protected, and reveals: - Screen: tighter than the previous cover, but very readable. - The four corners (again, it's a shame, but I doubt that a problem in case of fall: the covers enough beyond the corners of the reader) - All the buttons: there, for once, it's perfect! all buttons are very accessible. - Sony mark are hidden: - Back and SD reader, but it is more accessible than in the other version, since there is not to undo the Velcro tab. - glossy part all around the screen: really nice for reading, this was a big defect of T1 ![]() ![]() ![]() Screen frame yawns a little, but less than in my other cover (and it seems to be correctable by gently warming on radiator (obviously without T1) None of the defects of glue or sewing to be deplored, it's really a beautiful finish. In use: I open the book to 360° most of the time, since I hold with one hand. This is perfect for me. The buttons are kept clear, no problem playing with one hand. Little gecko, again very nice, embossed on the leather: ![]() Pros: + The reader is very well protected. + Really a classy cover! (Too bad, it does not appear on my poor photographs) + Magnetic closure. + glossy part entirely hidden Cons: - around the screen, which I think is not leather. - Velvet, that I personnaly dislike. - That's all! Result: a very good and nice cover in my opinion, for a price slightly higher than the plastic version. In my opinion, do not hesitate (except to dislike the available colors). Incidentally, I had in hand this week the original Sony cover, with the integrated lamp. I imagined a hard case or cardboard. It is not so: it is a kind of rubber that made me very bad impression: unpleasant to touch and, in my opinion, unsustainable over time ... A very light blue with low power, and glossy part of T1 completely apparent. I am very pleased to have this gecko cover ![]() Last edited by esspic; 04-29-2012 at 04:33 PM. |

Thanks to esspic for saving me a lot of time and effort. I also received my Gecko real leather cover yesterday. Mine is labelled 'red' but is actually a lovely rich burgundy colour -- a very good partner for the red T1.
My first impression is that this is a very classy product. Quality stitching, fit and finishing around the edges of all cut out parts and it feels substantial. I could be wrong, but my impression is that the burnished leather (i.e. non-suede) parts ARE real, at least it smells like real leather. Also, personally, I actually like the velvety interior. Also, I really like the magnetic closing -- no flap to get in the way. Up to now I have been using the official Sony non-lighted cover, which cost me 30.99GBP back in October. The Gecko cost me 25.40GBP. Therefore, for me, the Gecko is easily the better value for money. If you're particularly worried about protecting the corners of the T1, it has to be said that the Sony case edges it because the plastic 'box' completely encases the T1. But the Gecko wins for screen protection because the front and back covers are rigid and padded, whereas the Sony's are neither. A couple of other metrics: Gecko weight (empty) is 132g. Sony standard cover is 83g. Gecko thickness when closed containing T1 is 21mm. Sony standard cover is 14mm. In conclusion -- buy with confidence -- I don't think you'll be disappointed. |

Not liking the Gecko case
Wow! Tastes certainly differ, but as always, taste is a mater of opinion, and you know what they say about opinions, they're like a..holes, everybody's got one.
The frame actually holding the reader is wierd! Why cover the nice matte finish above the buttons, while leaving the glossy bessel underneath uncovered, and then make a big ugly cutout for the word SONY!? It looks like it's a pretty bad fit too. I don't see why they need to use two different materials on the outside of the cover. Then there's that big ugly gecko embossed on the front which reminds me of t-shirts with crocodiles. If you're like me you might prefer somthing a bit less flashy, a better fit and better quality, like this leather case: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=161 |

Whatever rocks your boat I guess.
Al the cheaper covers I have purchased only lasted 3 months. Splits appeared along the spine. Inside flaps needed to be cut out because they pressed down on the screen et al. |

Dear all,
with regards to esspic's question what is and is not leather we can confirm that both the outside as the inner holder are made of real leather. With regards to bibahbuzemann's comments. The velvet on the outisde is for people who like to read with the reader opened as a book. The velvet feels nice in your hand. In our opinion it is rather unfair to say 'it looks like a bad fit' when you havn't even tried your reader in it. People who have used the cover are very positive about the fit. If there are any other questions or remarks, we are happy to answer them. Team Gecko. |

You are quite wrong, the one I received is an excellent fit. I have 3 Sony models, all with real leather cases. Of the 3, the Gecko for the PRST1 is the best fitting case I own.
However, you are correct that everyone has their own opinion and as I have no interest in getting embroiled in a 'my-case-is-better-than-your case' dialogue, I'm not planning to say any more on the subject. |

I will be receiving my leather Luxe cover shortly and will post a review.
If this real leather model is anything like my current basic model that my T1 lives happily within, then fit will be excellent. |

@JSWolf and MarciaCat. We do not have the leather cover without a velvet inside. Next to the nice touch it gives, it also attracts dust from the screen (keeping it clean) and because it is so soft it prevents the screen from getting scratches.
May I ask what you think would be a better inside? We can always consider broadening our range. Last edited by Klein Nijenhuis; 05-04-2012 at 03:56 AM. |

True enough but when you're buying online and not in person, one only has the pictures to go by and it doesn't look like it fits well to me either. And for me, it's too much of a hassle to buy it try it and then return it if I don't like it for whatever reason. |
