Come on, guys, Sony has a really predictable pattern of releasing a new model, every year, in August, September, or October. Then they discontinue the previous models.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Reader The only question is, WHAT features will the new reader have? |

Strangely familiar....just like the OP asking every year why the current model is discontinued for the new one when the current one is perfectly fine??? hmm.... ![]() Sorry, I just find it to be a silly question & even sillier to be asked by the same person every year. It's not a new phenomenon for goodness sakes! |

I've had my 505 since march 2008. The only "new" reader that I regret not buying was the 950.

When Sony announces they're done with ereaders/their ebook store, THEN I'll believe it. Until then it's just speculation and rumor.

From Good Ereader.com:
Major interest in Sony readers in Canada have certainly tapered off with 48% of respondents claiming they have zero interest in buying one at all. This stems from the company dwindling its portfolio of e-readers. In 2011, it had 3 different devices available to choose from that ranged from five inches to nine. Now in 2012, it is only marketing the Sony Reader WIFI and has recently decided to discontinue it. link ![]() |

A line in a Canadian article (unsupported by any evidence yet) is hardly definitive proof of the discontinuance of the T-1... something from Sony would be more convincing... even a quote from Sony...

I didn't ever try a better 6" than the T1.
It feels crappy in your hands, this is true, but who's ever seen a so powerful 6" on pdf? If the new model will have a higher resolution screen (like Iriverd HD and Boox i62), it'll be great. |

I don't really see what the big deal is, the T1 will continue to work and Sony probably need to keep improving things to compete with the latest from nook and kindle. I'm happy with my T1 and hopefully it will last me a long time, it does what I wanted it to and does it well.
That being said I'd like to see Sony keep improving the firmware and features it would go a long way to making me choose Sony again next time. |

The x650 range seems to have been the pinnacle of Sony's ereaders. I love my 650 and my 505 is still going strong.
Sony now have to play the produce it as cheap as they can to compete with others doing the same thing. ie the latest Kindle is a cheap version of the K3 which has also been rated as the best build quality versus price. Alas, I just have the feeling that the T2 will just continue down this road :-( And as other have mentioned based on the last several years Sony always release a new reader in Quarter 3 of a particular year so its available for the Xmas rush. |

I have to agree with you and fear the T2 will not be much improvement above the T1. If it will ever come. SONY is, as man can read, in troubles and maybe tries to find it's way into the future. A future with eBookreaders I hope. But who knows. Even the x50-line had a, let's say, strange strategy. Even if you wanted to buy a reader - there was none... And prices went up and down. The +- anounced 'Harry-Potter-Line' did not come. A. |

The lack of a Harry Potter book did not happen because of Pottermore not Sony. Sony had the device ready. It was a screw up on the Pottermore side. And on top of that, they now do have that promised Harry Potter reader. It's the same Sony T1 that we all have except it comes with the coupon to get the first Harry Potter book from Pottermore. It's currently available on the Sony site. Buy the reader from Sony, register it and receive an email with the coupon to get the free book from Pottermore. |
