By my experience i would say every attached LED light or in-cover light will loose against a good reading light. Every ambitious reader should invest in a good reading standard lamp.

Besides that i think there will pass some time till we will see "glow light technology" avaible in stores around

Virtual keyboards

One can use a Virtual Keyboard on the Kindle Fire and the Kindle Touch for making notes. I find it better than the Mechanical Keyboard on the 3rd Gen Kindle Keyboard since low light makes it hard to read the small keys.

The Virtual Keyboards have large, clear keys and are much easier to read and use.

Best of all would be a Kindle eInk Glow Light with a Virtual Keyboard. Personally, I expect it to be shipping by this coming November. Amazon will have to match Barnes & Noble now and go one step better.

It depends on how you are planning to use it.

If you are using it for a fairly straightforward reading of the Bible (where you don't jump around often or don't do too much cross-referencing) I would say any of the eink Kindles would be fine (I prefer the OSNOVA versions that are available for ease of navigation) just depending on your preference for hardware.

If you are doing more topical studies where you will be bouncing around, I would not recommend an eink Kindle. I have the K3/keyboard and it is only "ok" for reading the Bible, but I also have an Android phone and a WebOS tablet - both of which are much easier to use than the K3 for this type of Bible study - so I would recommend the Kindle Fire or other Android/iOS tablet. There are some really good Bible apps available on an Android and iOS systems that make navigation much easier than with an eink Kindle.

Thanks for all the comments. I'm not expecting myself to do much annotations and bouncing around. I've ordered the Kindle keyboard and expect it to arrive sometime this week. I've purchased the M-edge New Yorker case that is currently on sale with a free LED light, hopefully that will suffice.

My eyes have been a little wonky lately, perhaps long-sightedness is creeping in. Well, it's good to be able to adjust the font size on an e-reader!

For use in Bible Studies where rapid verse location is critical, I'd recommend the Three Touch Location use Bibles on the Kindle Fire like Tecarta ($ 5.00 per Bible) and the And Bible at zero cost with many Bibles, Dictionaries and Commentaries plus Strong Numbers.

For personal Bible Study I'd recommend the Zondervan Study Bible with Tecarta Three Touch Locations. It has the NIV Study Notes included, maps, videos, pictures and easy entry of Margin Notes and Bookmarks. It costs $ 25.00.

The Kindle Keyboard and Touch does not have the ability to use Android Apps like the Kindle Fire. If one must use those devices, the Osnova Bibles are best.

Presumably, though, the true "devotee" will wish to read in the original languages, and not rely on a translation. One should be aware that the Kindle does not support right-to-left languages such as Hebrew (although it's fine with Greek).

Logos Android

Logos does have all Greek and all Hebrew original language bibles with transliterations to boot. However, so far they only work on a PC.

They are still working on their Android implementation of the same books but it is not finished yet. If it ever gets finished (they are now on Android Beta 0.94), it may prove the best bible resource of all. Right now I cannot use that beta when compared to the Tecarta and "And Bible" resources.

Tecarta has the most rapid verse locator and an autoscroll which matches reading speeds. Thus, one can follow along a reader in a Bible Study and never have to manually turn a page. It is the only Bible App which has that feature.

The totally free "And Bible" available for the Kindle Fire offers all their bibles, dictionaries, commentaries and books in 25 languages including Hebrew so they must have solved the right to left reading application. They also have Strong Number dictionaries in True Hebrew and True Greek. Since I cannot read Hebrew or Greek, I have never tried them.

I use the Strong Number Dictionaries with English pronunciations of the Hebrew and Greek and their meanings. Strong Numbers are tied to the KJV only.

The "And Bible" is the only Android app for the Kindle Fire which offers the Easton and Smith Bible Dictionaries easily accessible to find meanings for words rapidly plus the complete Matthew Henry Commentary linked to each verse.

They offer the New English Translation (NET) as well but do not offer the 69,000 footnotes in the full version. It only shows footnotes for the first chapter of each book and the first 3 verses of every chapter.

The NET with all 69,000 footnotes and Osnova Direct Verse Jump is only available for the Kindle Keyboard. If one has a Kindle Keyboard, that Bible is the best resource for that device. Osnova DVJ does not work on the Kindle Fire since their reading app does not index eBooks the way the Kindle Keyboard does.
