Wish on the Moon by Karen Rose Smith is free at Amazon US DE. This may have been published in paper format under a different title.

Quote:
Award-winning, bestselling author Karen Rose Smith writes romance straight from the heart when single mom (former wild child) Laura Sanders meets conservative businessman Mitch Riley and sparks fly!

WISH ON THE MOON is a contemporary romance with family subplots.

Laura Applegate Sanders' world is turned upside down when Mitch Riley appears on her doorstep with the news her estranged father is about to undergo heart bypass surgery. For the past few years, Mitch has been her father's partner in the jewelry business Laura once dreamed of sharing--until her father disowned her when she married Doug Sanders, an artist with no money and few prospects.
Mitch loves and respects Laura's father as he never could his own. His dad was a drunkard and a gambler who died leaving his wife and two sons destitute when Mitch was fourteen. Knowing how much it would mean to Ray Applegate to see his daughter again, Mitch takes it upon himself to travel to Ohio to ask Laura to come home. To his surprise, he learns she is a widow with a four-year-old daughter, Mandy.
Mitch is prepared to dislike Ray's rebellious daughter because of the pain she caused Ray. But when he meets her, she surprises him. So does the sizzle between them. But Mitch has been betrayed in the past. His lack of trust in Laura causes him to back away to the old life that has left him alone. Can he forget the past and reach for true love?

Winter Affair by Doreen Owens Malek is free at Amazon US DE.

Quote:
Originally published as WINTER MEETING (1985)

SILENT ENCOUNTER

A twilit hush had settled over the cemetery, and the sighing of the wind in the trees and the hiss of falling snow combined to enclose two strangers in a still world.

Leda Bradshaw was visiting the grave of her beloved father. Kyle Reardon was paying his last respects to a man everyone believed he had wronged.

Leda knew Reardon was accused of destroying both her father's business and his life. She knew the townspeople scorned him as an outcast. She knew he was the one man she should avoid at all costs. But one glimpse of the pain and determination in his bleak gray eyes told her he was also the one man she could never turn away from.

I have become a member of the Sourcebook romance club, Discover a New Love (discussed above). I haven't yet chosen which book to get for free this month, because each of them are appealing! I have not read a whole book by either of these authors, but on a train journey during the weekend I read beginnings of other books by Burrowes, Brown and Kearsley (each gotten during another promotion for free or at a bargain price) and what can I say? I enjoyed each book's first three chapters a lot. And the paranormal romance looks very interesting too! Have more of you joined in the meantime? And which books have you chosen / would you choose?

I went with the Kearsley book as I liked the other two I've read by her. I was going to get it anyway and the cost of the 6 month membership is only slightly more than the cost of this one book on Amazon.

Anyone seen anything that indicates the price of the club after the 6 month promo.

No but they hinted around a little more than the introductory price whatever that means. I bought the other two books featured. The Brown book I bought before the club and the Elisabeth Naughton one I bought after I joined. There are a few books on there that isn't discounted I think it was overlooked.

Yes, I've been wondering about that, too. On their blog they only say it won't go lower than $9.99.

Quote:
I expect there will likely be some price changes as we find our sweet spot, but I can tell you now that $9.99 is as low as it’s going to go. And this afternoon we talked about the first month’s members as “charter members,” who will undoubtedly get some future benefits.

I still have not joined, but I found this blurb on the site:

Quote:
P.S. I’ve seen a number of comments about the introductory offer and how long it’s going to last. Not sure. I expect there will likely be some price changes as we find our sweet spot, but I can tell you now that $9.99 is as low as it’s going to go. And this afternoon we talked about the first month’s members as “charter members,” who will undoubtedly get some future benefits. This is really getting to be pretty fun! And again, thank you for joining us!
I'm picky with my historicals (depends on the plot) and not a paranormal fan so I don't know if this would be a good deal for me or not.

I'm a no-romo and romance is one of those reading categories I'm generally flat out not interested in, with the very occasional exception, but I'm moderately tempted to join anyway.

They have some Roberta Gellis and Georgette Heyer in there which are available to my region, and even if it looks like the actual book club selections will be pulled from this list of the Author Showcase, getting some of those at a substantial discount might end up paying for itself.

Apparently you can save up the monthly credits, which are not supposed to expire, and apply them to a future selection which looks good if nothing in the previous months appeals. And the club discounts seem to stack with the regular Sourcebooks promotions, so if you manage to catch somethnig that's on both $2.99 sale and 40% off, then it'll be a very good bargain.

I'm kind of personally hoping that they'll add more Gellis and beef up the non-primarily-romantic Historical Novels section with other than Jane Austen derivatives, and have the Heyer anniversary sale again like they did last year.

They do say in the FAQ that every month they'll offer 1 historical romance, 1 contemporary romance, 1 paranormal romance, and 1 "random" category item, and that some of the months you'll be able to get the books in advance of general release.

So by going to the Author Showcase and looking at who's got stuff not-yet-published, you can probably predict what the next couple of months' offerings are going to be and do some advance sampling to see if you like their prose/style.

Ditto.

I may not be a paranormal fan per se but I do love me a good time travel novel!

Can't beat the price for six months (at least for now!).
