The public information is here: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/digitalpublishing.html
and here http://blogs.adobe.com/digitaleditions/ However they are both a bit out of date, so yes licensees and the resellers get better information. |

I think I read that the Sony WiFi is running RMSDK 9.1 - so that means that the Sony will allow the reading of B&N books?? ![]() ![]() |

According to Sony's website, their Reader for PC/Mac software (which is the desktop software that goes with the Sony WiFi) is running RMSDK 9.1. One can only guess that means Sony WiFi is also running 9.1, but that's not confirmed. 9.1 means that if Sony wanted to, they could program their readers to open B&N books, but they have chosen not to include this feature. However, if Sony WiFi is running 9.2 instead of 9.1, then depending on what Adobe does with the next release of ADE, it may be possible to transfer a B&N book to the Sony WiFi using ADE as a go-between. In other words, ADE 1.8 Preview can already open B&N books. If we're lucky, the final version of ADE 1.8 will also be able to transfer B&N books to the Sony WiFi. But we won't know until ADE 1.8 is released. |

It means that Sony could support the B&N DRM in they wanted to. But have chosen not to enable that support.

Apparently it's the de facto greyscale/colour format for book scanners, at least for DIY ones...? Cheers. |

Adobe Digital Editions 1.8 Preview 3 (1.8.2) now available
I just noticed that the 3rd release of ADE 1.8 Preview is now available -- and it includes device support, yay!
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/digitaleditions1-8/ It's already been confirmed that ADE 1.8 will open B&N DRM books. Does anyone know if it can now transfer B&N books to a Sony Reader? |

I'm very curious to know if B&N can be sideloaded this way as well, but looks like I can't make the attempt without some sort of workaround. Older Sony models might work, as ADE 1.7 worked with them, but I don't have one to test it with. Interestingly it sees my Kindle Fire (I have a couple of RMSDK-enabled apps on there). Shows up as 'blaze' in ADE, and shows all the ePub and PDF on the device. Hope this will let me use Mantano for library books... Last edited by tomsem; 04-14-2012 at 02:00 PM. |

I thought that my ADE or Sony T1 was buggy and that's why it wasn't being recognized in ADE... |

Thanks for your efforts Tomsem! If it turns out ADE 1.8 can transfer B&N books to Sony Readers, I'll be buying a T1.

That would be no fun! You sound like the sort of person who would cheat at solitaire.
![]() Seriously, there are many people would appreciate knowing how to get this working out of the box. I tried it with Windows ADE, with same result (device not seen). I posted over on the Adobe ADE Preview forum, and will check some other places. |

tomsem;
It sounds like you are saying that your Sony T1 is not being recognized properly by your PCs (Windows and otherwise, Linux, I presume). The device needs to be available through the OS before an application like ADE can access the device. Once you get your PC's OS able to recognize the device properly, (usually a matter of a USB or device driver) ADE should be able to deal with your device. You should also be able to use the OS file handling features to move files to and from the device. If the device has Adobe Reader Mobile 9.1.1 or later as its reading software you would then be able to open and unlock the infected B&N epub files. ADE would not be needed or a part of the process. [If your device has an internet function, you would want a later version of Adobe Reader Mobile, as the v9.1.1 had a security issue. But for most people you will have little choice in the matter.] Luck; Ken |
