We put these screens in all the windows and doors. The mozzies usually stay outside. i don't understand why you would want to attract them. Let them eat the neighbours.

Talk about the original 'blood-sucking female!' This one is the size of a B-52!

I always found it interesting and somewhat odd to notice that the UK visitors to the Thai beaches always could be singled out by the incredible number of mosquito bites they got, compared with visitors from other countries. These poor folks were polka-dotted with Calamine lotion from tip to toe!

We are ultra tasty! .

Actually, I used to get bitten to hell in my youth, but as I've got older, they tend to leave me alone. Must be like the difference between lamb and mutton .

Come to think of it, it was the long, lean legs of the young female British backpack travelers that I was ogling... I really couldn't tell of the older or male stock was getting bitten.

We went for a long ride today, out in the countryside. This entire country is PINK. We rode through valleys with small villages pasted to the sides of the mountains... PINK EVERYWHERE! Old style houses with PINK trees between them. Rice paddies surrounded by PINK trees. We rode along rivers lined with quite literally kilometer after kilometer of nothing but PINK trees. In the higher elevations the trees were just coming into full bloom. Along the lower reaches, the trees were only half full, but the ground under them was solid PINK! PINK PINK PINK!
Got home, and gee... PINK! There is a bamboo forest just across the street from my house, and the outer edge is lined with PINK trees!

Think Pink!

I've always been one of those lucky people who is rarely bitten by a mosquito. We certainly have plenty of them here, though, with the accompanying outbreaks of West Nile Virus and the necessity of giving our dogs heartworm preventative year round. They are nasty disease-carrying little creatures!

Vent mode on:

I hate allergies. The weather is gorgeous. I sat outside with my friends my my baby shower and had a wonderful time. Then I spent the entire night coughing and feeling my throat get worse and worse. Now it is another gorgeous day and I know if I go outside to read, like I like to do, I am totally screwed. My In-Laws are coming this week and I am not going to be able to go to Gettysburg or do much outside with them, even with the great weather.

The plus is that the more severe allergic reactions will go away when the baby comes and my immune system returns to normal. And that this is a mere annoyance compared to with many of my friends went through with their pregnancies.

But I want to read outside damnit.

No! And it amazes me. For some reason these cherry trees don't produce an edible fruit. There ARE Japanese cherry trees that do, but the fruit is a pale red color with very little taste. The supermarkets all sell 'American Cherries!'

No, I knew that cherry blossoms don't provide edible fruit. It's the Prunus species that bear the fruit. Shame, condidering the proliferation of the blossom variety. Maybe that's what your rant could be about .

It must be beautiful, here we have seasons when the trees are mostly yellow; that's pretty too.

Mother Nature gets it right more often than she gets it wrong, in every corner of the world, when it comes to color. Growing up were were always told that Siberia was the worst place in the world, yet it's the ONLY other place on the planet that experiences the extensive variety of Autumn colors as found in northern New England. And the brilliant yellows that cover the lower Rocky Mountains in the fall has to be seen to be believed! Japan has its Pinks in the Spring and bright Red in December. The Appalachians are sprinkled with color in the Fall... England has... England has... err... England had its English Rose Gardens! Found nowhere else on earth! (Whew!) Australia has a bright red mountain right in the middle of it! Central America is covered with natural orchids. Even Antarctica has color... White!
