I had the DXG before the K3 and I can't say that I noticed that much of a difference between my friends DX and the DXG or the K2 and the DXG. For me there was a difference but I was moving from the K1 to the DXG so there was a serious improvement in the grey scale that was probably what I noticed the most.

When will I upgrade? When my K3 dies...
I actually didn't buy my K3 until after the K4 - Touch was out. I was upgrading from a K1 and knew the new devices would be coming out and assumed I'd get the newer model. Until they actually came out. If the Touch had had page turn buttons on the side so I could turn pages without swiping, I would have considered it. But it didn't. The K3 seemed the better device, so I bought a K3. |

I don't plan to upgrade until it dies (hopefully that won't happen for a long, long time). If I had the money I would buy another one as a backup. I don't like touch screens, and I really love having the keyboard.

I have gone through a round of upgrades at home for several reasons, none of which effect the kindle in the least bit but they point out a reason to upgrade. If the Kindle simply can't keep pace with the books that I am reading, something that is highly unlikely to ever ocurr but whas the reason why I upgraded my server (hard drive controller simply could not spin the hard drive fast enough). Don't particularly want to upgrade but will if the kindle three has problems.

I got a Kindle Basic as a second Kindle. I'm a bit odd and I was afraid Amazon would switch to nothing but the color LCD so I wanted a spare. I'm happy now with a Kindle Keyboard and the Kindle Basic.

I'm another reader who bought a K3 because I thought they would be discontinued. I have 2 K2's, which my wife and son use. I actually really like the K2. It is a very solid ereader. The combination of wifi, 3G, open browser and keyboard on the K3 seems pretty unbeatable for now.
I would lenjoy having a smaller reader without a keyboard for taking with me everywhere, but I think I would buy a Sony reader before I'd get a Kindle Basic. I'll stick with the K3 until it breaks. I've already replaced the battery once, and I'll do so again. |

Well I tried two Kindle NT's but gave up due to screen quality compared to my KKB. Really liked the size of the new one for travel and I never use the keyboard. I've deciced to wait for Amazon to either improve the NT or come out with another NT model in that size range.

I am tempted by the touch-screen ereaders (not just the Kindle, quite like the Sony PRS-T1 too), but apart from wanting something shiny & new, there's not really any good reason to move on from the Kindle 3, so unless it breaks, I think I'll probably wait and see what the next version brings before changing.

I suspect, sadly, that the K3 was the last kindle we'll ever see with a keyboard, but for me lack of physical page turn buttons is the deal killer. I had a touch and returned it because I had constant issues with it registering touches to turn pages, either no page turn or double page turns way too often to be acceptable. I'm still cranky about they losing the number keys on the K3, hitting alt all the time is a pain, but I guess I could learn to live with a touch screen as long as there were physical page turn buttons too. Nook got that bit right, unfortunately their software UI is terrible (the home and library bits, in book is fine).

I will upgrade when Amazon makes a reader that has physical page turn buttons again. I really want the KF8 support, but without page turn buttons, I'm not going anywhere near a Kindle Touch.

I still use my Kindle 3rd Gen Keyboard in bright light and my wife uses it to read free eBooks from the Amazon lending library.
I use the Kindle Fire for my ebook reading and other apps. |

Losing the keyboard would be a PITA, I really wonder how one can possible configure the WLAN access password on a K4, - I need at least two tries with keyboard to correctly copy down the 63 characters of gibberish. ;-)

I have a K3, and I will keep using it until it can't be used anymore. It is a device for reading e-books, and it does that task quite well. As long as it performs its tasks well, I see no need for a new model. New bells and whistles are nice, but they aren't compelling enough to get me to buy a new device.
