You're simply unwarrantedly rude, defensive, and, in this sphere, ignorant. Most of the people on this forum have actually been at this 20-30 years, myself included. You have yet to give ONE good reason why this should be changed, or why it caused you ANY type of problem, or what would be achieved by changing it. You used a program you don't understand, to create a filetype you clearly don't understand, and you're angry because it doesn't "save as" html, when you don't understand what it DOES do. Then, when everyone endeavored to a) explain WHY it doesn't "save as html," and b) find out what difficulty you encountered saving as an ePUB, you instantly launched personal attacks on everyone here.

Because you don't understand what it DOES do, or why it does it, or why changing the entire basis of the program so you can "save as html," you're having some type of public tantrum, and want it "fixed" when it isn't broken. Everyone here, believe it or not, is pretty good about listening to problems and coming up with all sorts of solutions, so if you had bothered to act like an adult for five seconds and explained WHY "saving as epub" created an issue for you, somebody would have jumped in to be helpful. Maybe your problems are the result of your stroke, but whatever they are, I'm certainly not wasting any more time trying to help you. Maybe somebody else around here has valuable time to waste trying to help someone as unbelievably hubristic as you, but I don't.

This duck wrote his first simple assembly program for a PDP-8L using a ASR-33 and paper tape in 1973 (and has been going down hill ever since )

Thanks, Duckie:

I appreciate you, and all you do, as well. You're one of the very people I was thinking about when I said that folks here would eagerly pitch in to help someone. (P.S.--I was an old IBM 370 and then a PDP-11, myself--once upon a time, t'was me, a #2 lead pencil and an 80-column punch card--lord, those were the days, eh? ;-)

You are both whipper snappers, whatever that is. My first programming in school was on a Bendix G-15 and then graduated to IBM diagnostics on a 360 and did work with PDP-8's, 11's and Data General as well as other minis. Also microcoded some diagnostics for Disk and Tape controllers hanging off 370's. Bought my Pet in 1977.

I don't know about you, but the idea of whipping my snap sounds really painful...

Since Sigil is sometimes unstable, it would be nice to be able to do an immediate save, even if the epub is not correct. In this case, Sigil could prompt 'Do you really want to save an illegal epub?'. If the user responds yes, Sigil could save as ??.epub-wip. Then if ??.epub is opened, and a ??.epub-wip exists and is more recent, Sigil could prompt to see which the user wishes to open.

Illegal or non-conforming ?

I agree that Sigil should allow a Save (as) in a error state because you might want to do a second try at a second pass replace. (The first pass may only replace the opening tag. Pass 2 will complete the task, when a 1 shot replace just won't do)

I just can't see this as high priority. I do a lot of 2 pass stuff but I've never felt compelled to save after pass 1 of 2. I save before starting the tricky stuff , and again after it's all done.

I read this stuff about "instability" but I have never lost work due to a sigil crash & cannot recall it ever crashing while editing a book

it would be nice though, in a separate thread, so see and comment on what enhancements are currently planned/wishlisted

It actually allows it. Just turn off the "well-formed" checking. (what you probably will do anyway if you doing things in several passes, which cause temporarily an invalid state)

I know that allows the second pass, but I think that will still not allow a save (without ing your work) before the second pass.

You're right, I never noticed this (and tested not carefully enough this morning ).

Apps like Jutoh, etc., are great for people who are making books commercially, but over the top for home stuff done by retirees.

Furthermore, the programming I suggested is trivial.

It's an open source program; feel free to do the programming yourself.

A crowd of people familiar with the software don't seem to see any need for the feature you want, which seems to be at cross purposes to the software itself.

Why use Sigil to edit & save HTML files? Why not use an HTML editor like Notepad++?
