If you want tortured heroes, try Laura Kinsale. Flowers from the Storm is a classic. not fluffy or cookie-cutter at all.

![]() I don't consider those bodice rippers though. I think of Shirlee Busbee, Christine Monson, Judith McNaught and of course Rosemary Rogers to name a few. That said I do love tortured heros! One of my favorite books is Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase. I just bought an Anna Campbell book gonna have to give her a try. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I'm reading Learning to Swim by Sara Henry per recommendation of booksonthenightstand. I guess it's sort of a romance Mainly mystery. I'm enjoying it but the prose is pretty plain.
I also enjoyed the Expats by Chris Pavone. Kind of a soft spy thriller slash soft romance. I like Johnathan Tropper. You could call that romance for guys, or guy lit. Now what I don't like is something like Reacher (which I like for the action) where the author throws in an unconvincing romance for some sex (and to assure us loner Reacher isn't gay I suppose). It feels dry and perfunctory. Thanks for the recs. I'll check some out if my library has them. |

Well, the book is rather expensive...and I'm certain librarians know it's more of a fad. The book(s) is $10 either in ebook or DTB format. Considering how much more expensive library copies are...I'm not surprised the book has a long wait.

Nobody has mentioned it in this thread and I'm not sure what category it would properly fall into (historical fantasy romance with some erotic content?) but I really love the Kushiel's Legacy series by Jacqueline Carey. The first book is Kushiel's Dart.

Oh. I heart that series. At least the first two series, I haven't read the 3rd.

I've tried Kushiel's Dart I had to give up at chapter 15. It was just so boringly dull. Nothing interesting happened in 14 chapters.
