what would be a good Cherryh introductory novel

I've never read Cherryh's work before. What would be a good introductory novel?

I started with the Chronicles of Morgaine back in the day. Worked well for me, so it might for you too.

I think that I read "The Paladin" first, and then moved on to "Foreigner".

I started with Cyteen, myself. I think pretty much any of them would work, really, as long it's not the middle of a series. I'd suggest one of the standalone SF novels, like Merchanter's Luck.

Downbelow Station is the heart of her Alliance-Union stories --- tough sledding though.

I find _Heavy Time_ and _Hellburner_ (published together as _Devil to the Belt_) to be a good introduction, since one starts w/ a character at an early point in his career and follows it along.

"Cyteen" is a trilogy, although it is available in a single omnibus edition. Is it available as an eBook? I haven't checked.

To answer my own question, neither "Cyteen" nor "The Pride of Chanur" appear to be available as eBooks. In the UK, anyway.

Or anywhere else. The Foreigner series has the more recent books available, and the first, but not the ones in between.

It's a shame, because Caroline Cherryh was posting on MR a while ago and saying that she was a big fan of eBooks and wanted to get all her books released as eBooks. Let's hope that's still the case.

Well, from reading her blog and the Closed Circle web site, I think the problem is very likely on the publisher end. And the publisher is... Penguin.

Clearly the rights have not reverted to her, yet, and thus she has little or no control over what is published and available as eBooks. Where she does have control, she's working to get the old books converted. In at least one series case, that's resulted in a fair amount of re-write. Overall, makes for some interesting reading, especially if you've got any contact with the writing as a job world.

Is that a problem? Penguin seem to be pretty good with eBooks. Or at least, they certainly seem to publish a lot of eBooks.
