If these can be made ledger size (11 x 17) at a reasonable cost (say no more than twice the cost of a comparably size lcd) then I can see a great market for musicians. We attended several outdoor concerts last summer, and after watching the musicians wrestle with scores blowing about, an e-ink display would be ideal (low power, visible in sunlight.)
There are many other applications for monochrome static displays as well. Durable always beats fragile. It is all contingent on cost. |

Now that you mention it, yes. It just occurred to me that in not too many years, kids will watch the Harry Potter movies, and see the newspapers that have moving pictures, and won't see anything unusual about it, because they will have seen that on a daily basis. They won't get that this was supposed to be magical and amazing.

It'll need to be enclosed in a relatively sturdy frame, or there won't be kid who won't fold it all the way and break it.

If the surrounding material is a kind of hard but flexible rubber you can have it in your pants' back pocket and sit down without destroying the device. That would make e-books a lot more popular for everybody commuting on public transportation. |
