Well, 7 is still better than the the 3 download from adobe.
And that's why the fist thing I did was zipping the books and mailing them to myself for safe keeping. I'll backup them proper when I gets back home.

Lol, copied mine to Dropbox so aside from this computer, I should have them in my laptop, my brother's netbook, 3 desktops and 2 virtual machines.

The US books are set in Garamond. Looks like there is a free simulation of the font used for the titles here:

It would be fun to see some screen shots if you get the fonts all set up!

I wonder why the editor recommended a chance in quantity like that. Most of the other changes are word swaps where the UK/US have different meanings, but that and a couple of the paragraph ones seem strange. Probably find there's a reasonable reason behind it, just seems odd on the face of it.

Is applying the font to your own ebook on your own ereader a commercial use? I'm not trying to be sarcastic, I wonder.

For Garamond by Monotype Corporation (I think usually ships with Windows?), you can pay to license it for commercial use. Not sure if embedding is allowed or if that requires a separate license.

However, since I don't plan on distributing either the fonts or my Harry Potter ebooks with the embedded fonts, I don't think it matters much.

From what I remember, there was a typo in the British edition where it was called one title in one place and the other an another. The American edition fixed this so it said One Thousand in both places. Later British editions fixed this.

Commercial purposes usually refer to someone reselling something. So even if changing the fonts is against the TOS if they're not reselling those versions, then I'd say no, that's not commercial use. It's a different violation of the TOS but then hey, I back up all my books on a USB so....

Wasn't able to copy to the PRS-350 last night (couldn't find an unused microUSB cable) but I did get some screenshots using iBooks on the new iPad.

By the way, I just found a similar font under an Open Font License (EB Garamond). However, I don't see what difference it makes when you can't legally distribute the ebooks regardless of whether it has embedded fonts or not.

Maybe the servers are jammed. Or, maybe Overdrive was not supposed to release them yet (April 30 was listed as the availability date).

First book downloaded and activated in Sony Reader software without a problem. Second book downloads fine. It just won't activate. I have tried saving to different locations. I will try again tonight and see if the problem is congestion.

And should you ever lose them from all those devices, the "underground" community have been quick to release both the UK & US commercial versions.
