YW. I found it very informative also. I knew about the US and Canadian usage of the terms, but not the UK usage.

Tuques, or as I more commonly see it up here, Toques, are a term for knitted wool (or now synthetic) hats. It's a very large category and refers to almost everything you would see on a mountain while skiing or snowboarding, other than a helmet.

Around my neck of the woods, if it's got ear flaps - it's a Sherpa. No ear flaps - toque, though I have heard the use of booble hat if it's got pompoms.

To go back a bit, I read that running a Booxtream-encoded book through Calibre will strip the original "social" DRM watermark info, meant presumably to trace any pirated versions that emerge. They never quit, do they

I fail to see why any one would pirate the just released versions. The pirated versions that already exist are excellent. Why risk it?
