That would be a possibility, but in the two times it's happened to me, the fields were already established.

Stitch the only remaining possibility could be a poorly configured 2to4 digits converter converting your birth year input xx to 20xx instead 19xx. The common setup is at 2x. (23 to 29) So such should happen only if you are born some years before 1930

Look at that avatar. First presidential election Stichawl voted in was between Lincoln and Douglass.

For all that, I doubt it will do any good, and if I want to continue using their services, I'll probably have to give them a name I have never, ever used in my entire life: William Sharpe. Not even my mother ever called me William. I'm not sure it's worth it. Isn't Google the company that pledged to do no harm? To always do the right thing? Who are they to tell me who I am???
I used to have a brother-in-law whose first name was E.R. (uh maybe without the periods?), it was the name he was given at birth, and was on his birth certificate like that.

He used to tell all sorts of stories about the bureaucratic hassles he had over that.

I just have one first name and I've had problems with that in the past with bureaucrats insisting I should list my middle initials/name.

My last name starts with "van" and the second part is quite hard, even for a lot of Dutch people. When studying in the UK teachers couldn't pronounce it, when returning work I was the only one who they called by the first name. The "van" is also slightly problematic. I once had to book a flight back to the Netherlands because my grandmother had died and first I had to have a discussion with the girl at the travel agency that "van" was separate from the rest of my surname, then that it was all lower case letters and then I had to wait for almost an hour because my name was too long for their system and the tickets had to be arranged through main office. Spending the morning at the travel agency wasn't high on my want-to-do list just after I heard my grandmother had died!

After that whenever it was possible, eg when ordering a book or dvd, I just gave my last name without the "van", that was much easier.

Tom Sharpe is one of my favorite authors of all time. Hysterically funny.

Yes, there's also a comedian on the West Coast and a television writer. I once received an invite to a private party from Eddie Murphy via email. If I'd been on the West Coast, I'd have been tempted to go. I could see it now:

"Who the hell are you and what are you doing at my party?"

"I'm Tom Sharpe. You invited me. Don't you remember? I thought you invited me because we share the same birthday."

I've always assumed that my name got on that list because my niece was doing stand-up in California at the time, and many of the emails I received from her had been also CCed to several of her fellow comedians, and I got mixed up somehow with Tom Sharpe the comedian.

Oh, and my close friend Eddie and I do share the same birthday. Along with Doris Day and a few million others.

I was born about ten thousand years ago
And there's nothin' in the world that I don't know
I saw Peter, Paul, and Moses
Playing Ring Around the Roses
And I'll sock the guy who says it isn't so!!

(and besides, I made a write-in ballot for Sam Grant!)

Have you noticed, Ned Stark bears a remarkable resemblance to Richard Sharp? No wonder Sharp advance so quickly through the ranks, what with ancestors so skilled!
