FREE [K] The Sinking of the Titanic by Bruce M. Caplan
FREE Kindle book
The Sinking of the Titanic [Kindle Edition] Bruce M. Caplan (Author) http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006OJMDLK/..._1fpBpb0VD3B9N The Titanic was on fire before it hit the iceberg! Shortly after the Titanic sank on the morning of April 15, 1912, author Logan Marshall compiled a history of the tragic event. His narrative reads like a novel, yet every word is true. Bruce Caplan took the original work and edited and abridged the book to include new information and today is a much sought-after public speaker and consided a premier Titanic expert. Myth: the ship was safest when it left port. Reality: the ship was on fire from the time it left Southampton. Not a tiny blaze, but a roaring inferno that probably contributed to the disaster. Myth: All the men patiently stood by and let the women and children enter the few lifeboats. Reality: Men were shot on deck as they attempted to board the lifeboats and save their own lives. Now in the Seventeenth printing. Copyright 1967 Library of Congress Catalog Number 98-96592 Last edited by bookratt; 03-25-2012 at 01:29 AM. Reason: wasn't done! |

Books in the KDP select program only get 5 total days free each quarter and some authors use it one day at a time - since you posted after midnight in Seattle, it would have been a different day than the original post (as Amazon prices change at midnight local to their HQ).
Once a KDP select book goes back up in price, the deceptive 'free for prime' wording is added, which means it is a Kindle Lending Library title and may be borrowed, not that prime members can get it for free (as in a purchase). |

I can't even buy it -- like many other books in free threads today, I'm getting "you're in the US, no book for you!" errors. It seems like something's wrong -- once or twice a week, sure, but so far I've seen 4-5 just today.

"Myth: All the men patiently stood by and let the women and children enter the few lifeboats.
Reality: Men were shot on deck as they attempted to board the lifeboats and save their own lives." I don't believe that all the men stood by patiently for the women & children to board the lifeboats but I do know that according to renowned Titanic historians, NO body has ever been found with bullet wounds. I have to question this person saying 'men', the multiple of a single 'man' were shot on deck as they tried to get into the lifeboats. Anything is possible. We weren't there but if men were shot trying to board, how come no bodies were found with bullet wounds? Not one. |

Those "on deck" that went into the water would not have been found inside the wreckage. Nor would bullets necessarily still be with any bones after such a long time (assuming they had not entirely been dissolved by the sea water, anyway). Last edited by koland; 03-30-2012 at 11:03 AM. |

This is very much at odds with the accounts given in the famous book A Night to Remember (which is, coincidentally, being released as an eBook next week), which is based on eye-witness accounts from those involved in the tragedy (passengers, crew-members, and rescuers).

http://www.amazon.com/A-Night-to-Rem...dp/B0078X73B6/ Publisher is Open Road in the US, Penguin in the UK stores and so far the Penguin title can't be ordered in the US/Main store (even for those in the UK), but the Open Road edition can be ordered by those in the US or UK, from the main store.
