The themes of Blade Runner are basically the same as the book, though.

PKD's fiction was always about the ideas, rather than the quality of the prose, to me. The questioning of reality, and the exploration of what it means to be human. I loved the way he could turn the tables and make you see something in a completely different light.

In other words, his books are substance over form.

Like most old sci-fi writers, PKD is an acquired taste, I think. For me, the fact that his stories have inspired so many great ideas, movies, and continue to pop up even now, speaks worlds. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep became my favorite movie ever...Bladerunner...so I cut him some slack when he is dry.

An interesting point. I cut my teeth, so to speak, on old sci-fi... so much so, that modern sci-fi just feels "wrong" to me.
