Reading in the rain

I read while I walk. When my wife and I canoe, we use a sealed clear baggie for the map to keep it dry and to be able to read it. Add one and one, and I tried my ebook reader (Sony) in a large ziplock (the sandwich size was too small) and walked my dog. I walked for two hours, read for two hours, the rain was very light, and I enjoyed the morning. Because there is little or no battery use, there is little or no heat generated. Thus no cooling problem with the reader in a baggie. The temperature today was a warm 18C.

So to paraphrase the musical
"I'm reading in the rain, just reading in the rain, what a glorious feeling..."

Me neither. I really wish I could but I get dizzy. Same if I try to read in a car. I'm ok in something large like a bus or train but otherwise I need to have my eyes on my surroundings if my body's moving. Thank heavens for audiobooks!

Would it be easier to walk while reading then?

:-) I use that exact same method for reading the Kindle in the rain.

Once when I was a kid I tried to read a library book on the way home from the library (I was really excited about that particular book). Unfortunately I walked into a telephone pole, so I gave it up.

I don't know if my peripheral vision has gotten better as I aged (not the usual way things work) or if it's because the Kindle is smaller, but now I find I can read the Kindle and walk just fine. Maybe it's because there are no telephone poles on my present route :-)

Reading and walking never created any issues for me... but trying to read and scooter along in my mobility scooter??? Yep. *THAT* took some practice! Especially as the damned pedestrians simply *REFUSE* to get out of my way as I barrel along at 5.25MPH! (Hello, people! Can't you hear the BEEP of the horn!)

Sounds like fun! You may want to get some of those Dessicant bags to deal with the condensation inside the bag if the Reader is stored there for a while. Check these out: http://www.thewaterproofstore.com/desiccant.html

An acquaintance of mine learned braille so she could watch the horizon and read while a passenger in the car on family trips.

Interesting! I've always been fascinated by braille. I have so many things I'd love to learn and it depresses me how little time there is. Audiobooks are the quick and easy solution but learning braille would be a great new experience.
