And there's not much "gently chiding" in telling someone to get a life. It's rude and deliberately so. It only becomes "gently chiding" when speaking to your friends and others that you know and interact with. You're a pretty smart person. I'm sure that this isn't news to you. Have you ever tried to discuss this obsession that we all have with a layperson? And watch their eyes slowly glaze over? Don't pretend that you are any different than that guy waiting in line for the latest new gadget that he wants. If it was some new and shiny toy/book/ereader that made you happy...you'd hop on that line in a heartbeat.

Or maybe not. Maybe you'll just order it online.

I can't tell you how many people think I'm strange for owning multiple eReaders. And I try to explain the evolution of the ownership (Nook --> Nook Color --> PocketBook 360 --> Sony PRS-950 --> Sony PRS-350) and their eyes glaze over.

I've learned not to bring tech stuff up unless specifically asked.

Alas, that also meant keeping quiet almost all the time.

Because then you'll be the tech guy from then on. I keep my mouth shut too. Though most people know I'm a big geek. But if someone asks me to help me with their computer I tell them it'll be $50 an hour. It's not even my profession. But I don't care to nor have the time for it.

Better raise your rates if you're throwing a number out there for discouragement purposes only. People wouldn't even bat an eye at $50 per where I come from.

apart from here, I don't think I go on much about my ereader ('cept whenj I have trouble !) and not at all about my PC or my phone - I just think the many varied topics, sometimes unconnected with ereaders/ing, are interesting, it's fun - and I enjoy chatting....

Well, I obviously am, firstly 'cos I'd never bother doing it ! My PC is 7+ years old [with XP] and my phone a Nokia MusicXpress, for its great music player - oh, I do have a Sansa Clip+ naturally.
You have no idea how I happened to end up with - only one, the first, was bought by me - the 3 Sony's I do use, but I did not get any by rushing like a headless chicken when any came out- and I never buy any new product until bugs are sorted, so I certainly would never hop on whatever line you mention!
I think the nearest I ever came was having to cycle 3 miles on my son's 10th to get him the latest Potter - but that was around 9.00 a.m.as I slept in !

So, as my dear late Auntie Flo used to say "wouldn't do for us all to be the same, would it ?"

( N.B. Ooops....You'll have to sort out the above, sorry, I'm not tech-wise enough to separate it out as it should be.... )
