I have tried updating the Desktop today, and after four attempts, it has failed repeatedly. This is for my wife's use, as I returned my Kobo, after a few weeks, with so many issues, and got my money back. I now have a Sony PRS300 and a Sony PRS-T1 which are not tied into some dodgy site. I will see if it will download properly in a day or so. Most of my ebooks are out of copyright or Creative Commons. It is cheaper to buy modern books as hard copy than ebook, not to mention that you never actually 'own' DRM copies unless you strip it out. I'm not impressed.

I emailed kobo regarding the random page turns and pages turning back. They have advised on a soft reset. Not tried it yet. Will give it a go tonight

So I guess I'm the only guy with fewer issues now than I did with the previous update. Much appreciated work, devs. I had no tapping issues till my last few weeks with .16, but they disappeared once .17 came around. Highlighting and note taking seems faster in this release, too.

To say that I am unimpressed with the latest firmware would be about right. Nothing new here. It may be that my KT is a bit more unresponsive than before. If that's the way to end the double tap problem what took so long? (btw, it still is a problem)
All in all (YAWN) not much to write home about. Thank goodness for the plug-in. I really dislike the carousel. |

You're not alone cyvros. I'm definitely having fewer issues with the new firmware but by the sounds of it we are the minority. And if you're like me and don't mind the carousel (which I keep as shortlist and use for my TBR list), you're in an even smaller minority by the sounds of things. I don't even mind this google analytics spectre. I lead an incredibly boring life and whoever in the end is seeing my browsing/reading/shopping data from my online activities is surely weeping in a corner somewhere when they realize a person can be so dull. Kobo is in the book selling business. I'd be shocked if I went to their site and there weren't "Try this book" or "Recommended for you" advertising. It'd be like going into a store and not seeing product displays. The fact that my past shopping history is used to determine what's relevant to me (although some of the recommended reads I receive are hilarious) is in my opinion less annoying than blanket advertising. Just my two cents.

a couple of bugs with pdf
- if i turn in landscape mode it turns the wrong way or should invert tap zones - if i search for a word and then click on the x it still continues searching (or freezes for a while) -swipe to change page works only with no zoom edit: have to correct the first... the buttons are there but out of bounds when you set the zoom, so you have to tap & pan to see them Last edited by _pietro; 03-21-2012 at 10:10 AM. |

My wife and I have not had a single significant issue with our Kobos since buying them last summer, so these forums often have me scratching my head about what we're doing (or not doing) to avoid all the problems I keep hearing about.

In .17, performance is a little snappier for me, and I have less 'double taps' than I used to have (even though they still happen, once in a while). Mind you, .16 was very usable too. Just slower ![]() |

I suspect a lot of people don't experience certain bugs simply because they don't happen to use a certain feature which contains a bug. For example, if you only read English, or never look words up with the definition/translate function, you'll never know that the kobo software fails to select words with diacritics properly.

I loved my 1st gen. Kobo, and I've never had a problem with my KT [except the odd double page turn issue] until upgrades in the past couple of months. How's the Sony working out for you? ![]() Your comment about buying hard copy vs ebook, I TOTALLY agree. I don't understand the thinking behind that at all. ![]() And for those who've had no trouble, I was in that group. Enjoy it! ![]() |

Recommendations I'm fine with as well, though I guess that's mostly because I've been getting automatic book recommendations from websites since long before my first e-reader. Also, the recommendations system is apparently flawed (at least for me), because it doesn't really recommend me I'd want to read. Quote:
