It's only expensive if you can't afford it or you don't like apple products.

THIS is what I want: http://www.studio-lights.com/blog/ip...n-computer.htm

Oooohhh man! I want it sooo bad.

I have SO many recipe apps/websites that I use. And for shopping! Watching TV! Entertaining! I want one!

But my husband doesn't build computers and told me point blank it wasn't happening. I don't know any teenagers so I can't have one of them build it for me.

So my (current) options are either an iPad or a touchscreen all in one computer. I have to admit to being a bit particular about aesthetics...so the one I like visually the most is the Sony L Series. Which starts at $999.

That's before customization!!!

So I'm looking at the iPad again. And realizing that I really don't need a kitchen computer. But in comparison...the iPad isn't very expensive. In comparison.

That can be done with an iPad & a little craftsmanship. I saw something similar, with an iPad, but at a tattoo shop. They had it on display to show off the artwork. I've thought about doing it in the kitchen, mounting it on a cabinet or on one of the walls. But my wife already has an iPad & uses it throughout the house.

Building the computer itself is easy (and quite inexpensive). Heck, even a run of the mill small form factor HP or Dell will work. It's all that work on the frame and wall mounting (embedding really) for the touchscreen that's going to be difficult.

The new VAIO all-in-one's are actually quite ugly compared to the older models. My boss had this one and it was really, really pretty:

I regret not buying one. It was going for less than $1,000 on Amazon before it was discontinued.

Wall mounting the iPad is probably easier as I'm sure there are probably already accessories for that.

I'm sure you've considered it but I'll say it anyway, iMac attached to a swing out wall mount, wireless keyboard & trackpad, look to elgato & eyetv to get tv on it. Probably pick up a second hand one that would fit your needs nicely.

I remember looking at these at Best Buy. Great look to it. We were just looking but the sales rep didn't think much of it, stressed that if there were any problems it would have to be sent to Sony, no other way to have it repaired.

By all means, let him do what he likes with his life - doesn't mean I can't feel sorry for him....
And the phrase "Get a life" is, as I am sure you really know, is a colloquialism, and not always used with harsh intent, or as a call to string anyone up for doing anything , more a little chiding, and usually expressive of the user's general opinion of the action described.
People can wait in line as long as they like, long as they don't block the pavement/sidewalk......

There are a couple of refrigerator mounts you can get for the iPad for $30-$50.

I threw in the "uh huh" to make it clear that the first sentence was snark. Clearly, I failed.

Comparing a PC tablet to an Ipad or any other Android tablet is wrong. Both Ios and Android are a limited OS. A tablet containing a PC OS is much more versatile and thus more expensive.

You know, the conversation never got much farther than, "No. I'm an accountant for god's sake." lol!

Now that you mention it, the framing could get rather involved. But knowing his contrary self he'd be ok with cutting a hole in the wall (if it ever got finished would be up in the air).

And that old Sony is really nice! It'd look great with stainless steel appliances. *sigh*

See, that's what I'm talking about. It's so unnecessary. Why feel sorry for him?? He's doing what he wants and is pretty happy about it. He probably feels sorry for you. That you seem to have so much time to focus on him instead of what makes you happy.

And there's not much "gently chiding" in telling someone to get a life. It's rude and deliberately so. It only becomes "gently chiding" when speaking to your friends and others that you know and interact with. You're a pretty smart person. I'm sure that this isn't news to you. What you're doing is making assumptions about someone based on the fact that you wouldn't do what he's doing. Well, maybe he wouldn't own multiple ebook readers and would think you're life is empty and you are someone to pity due to your lack of life.

Have you even noticed that most of us here at MR are pretty niche people? Going on for days/weeks/months on end about our computers and our phones and our ebook readers? Have you ever tried to discuss this obsession that we all have with a layperson? And watch their eyes slowly glaze over? Don't pretend that you are any different than that guy waiting in line for the latest new gadget that he wants. If it was some new and shiny toy/book/ereader that made you happy...you'd hop on that line in a heartbeat.

Or maybe not. Maybe you'll just order it online.
