I just finished "A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers". I had given up on it after reading the first 20 pages or so, and then decided to give it another shot. I ended up enjoying it, and I suspect that it might be a book that I would enjoy even more after a second reading.
I'm now reading "Feed", by M.T. Anderson. I'll be sure to give my impressions when I've read some more. I like the premise, but the made-up future vernacular that is used to narrate the story is a bit grating for me to read at the moment. |

I'm having a real tough time getting into this book. I don't relate to any of the characters and the present-tense writing style annoys me. Especially since I'm also reading two really great books that I'm totally entertained by (A Dance with Dragons and The Beekeeper's Apprentice), reading The Hunger Games feels like a chore. I may drop this one.

started A Storm of Swords. 1100 pages man, 1100 pages. i might have to tap out half way through and read something else. reading a book that long just gets numbing after awhile.
my wife and i have been netflixing the first season of the show, we've got 2 episodes left. she's totally unfamiliar with the series and has high hopes for a certain character. boy will she be in for a surprise. ![]() |

The paperback was split into two, you could pretend you're reading them separately.

I'm about halfway through 'Got Fight?' by Forrest Griffin (UFC fighter)......very funny anti-'self help' book/biography of a great bloke.

This book's best feature was it's length. 166 pages. McBain did have an interesting storyline and he built up the characters so you felt saddened at their death. He really made you understand what they were feeling and experiencing. But overall the plot had a few holes.
Spoiler:
I did also enjoy the 50s cop slang. (Detectives were called "bulls") So along with its short length I would give it a C- [3 stars]. I'm not sure if it's my poor mood or choice of reading material that has caused my string of low ratings. It's a good thing I don't review titles for the NYT or I'd kill off a chunk of the publishing world. Nevertheless, I keep trying ![]() |
