Ok. I used page 3 of lorenzoens's file. I took some pictures in my son's bedroom. He is reading his paper book right now with the same light. He is holding his paper book next to our 3 devices on some of the pictures.
I hope it is helpful.

I see on some of the pictures (especially on the last one) the white balance is not very good. But this is the matter of using my camera in more challenging light conditions.

Yeah, looks like I misremembered. The brochure says something like 4096 colours (16x16x16 for each colour pixel) plus a 4 bit (16 levels) "CR" bias which I assume is contrast, brightness or something similar.

I'm not her but I can guess: because she paid big money for it, but it deluded her expectations since the display is very different from the official pictures, and Ectaco is trying to prevent her to return the item like it'd be in her customer right to do. People get angry when things like these happen.
If no one provokes her, she'll probably keep having a polite tone.

As far as customers' rights go, she apparently did not read the fine print.

Judging by the pictures she uploaded the display seem to be ok.

Anyway, she can't possibly make her position more precise than it is now.
So from here on one loses rather credibility than scoring any points ...

Definitely: yes. Seems to me that they brought the tech to the field of ereaders prematurely. If you see this http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=b83dIs7S4Ug and skip to min 8:00 you'll see that Triton's basic idea would better fit big advertising posters, big panels, for outdoors. It needs strong light (and big pixels to catch it) to display saturated colours.

For advertisings or art it's a great idea, I'd replace every backlighted advertising panel in the streets with an e-ink one so you don't waste energy.

I'll consider two opposite conditions: the light of the day VS the bedroom light.



Stricly talking about the READABILITY of the black text with the two displays (DXG /JBC)

The whiter and more powerful the light
AND (obviously)
the smaller the text

In my opinion the Triton needs the direct daylight to be as comfortable as the Pearl. Normal home / office lighting makes the Pearl more comfortable.

There are two factors to consider: the way the Tritons' surface (upper colour layer) interact with light, and the "reticulation" effect of the layer (noticeable with small-very small text).

Where the Triton will totally shine over the Pearl is in bright sunlight.

You should better set the two texts at approximatively the same size.
To do so, being them a 6" vs a 9,7", you better use an epub, not a pdf.

Also note that your PRS 650 display is not like the DXG or the latest Sony T1 / Nook ST / K 4: it's black is noticeably less intense than the last Pearls. You can easily notice this in every comparison you'l find on YouTube.

Yes. For sure - I will be sitting and waiting until Sony will finally introduce 9.7" eInk eReader (if it will ever happen). And I will postpone all the reading I need to do NOW until THEN

Lets just trade then your M92 for my JBC

P.S. Then you also will be able to post nice JBC's review here with your own pictures and describe how WELL JBC is doing about most of important features listed in its specifications on Ectaco's website. And I will start doing the COMFORTABLE and enjoyable reading on your M92.

PRS650 has the same screen (eink pearl) of PRS-T1

Edit: ... and I have not a 9.7 pearl screen
