SSH Guide
While threads here such as SSH Help are asking Kindle specific questions; questions about using SSH abound on this forum.
I started to write up a task orientied SSH Guide that would address the basic uses of SSH and include a couple of advanced examples. Although the draft of the SSH Guide is not (yet) pushed into the subject repository, the drafts of the example scripts are present. This little project of mine can be found here: http://hg.minimodding.com/repos/sys/ukeys.hg/ The name comes from one of the "Advanced Examples" that requires a bit of scripting for the 'mount' and 'umount' commands. The usual access methods for an hg repository apply - you can grab a tar (or zip) from the usual 'buttons' in the web-view; you can 'hook' the RSS or ATOM feeds to be sent notice of changes; you can make a local clone with: hg clone http://hg.minimodding.com/repos/sys/ukeys.hg I expect to have the write-up (the actual SSH Guide) pushed and tagged as a release point within a week's time (life events permitting). The ukeys name: Usb KEY Storage Where the (private) contents of ~/.ssh is kept on an encrypted, removable, USB stick. System allows more than one ~/.ssh volume on the stick and selects/mounts the correct one based on user's login (at login time) and umounts/frees the usb stick on logout (all automagically). The basic useage: Machine is in a power-off state; Insert USB key stick; Press power button; Login Whoot! your ~/.ssh directory is now being provided by the encrypted USB stick. Logout; Whoot! the USB key stick is now idle and safe to remove. Other, more complex, sequences are intended to be handled. One encrypted ~/.ssh volume may have as many as 8 keys to access it - meaning you can use the same ~/.ssh volume on different machines and only store one of the 8 access keys on each machine. One USB stick may have multiple ~/.ssh volumes - Which supports the use case of a person using multiple user names on a single machine. I will announce the posting of the 'SSH Guide' in this thread but hooking the rss or atom feed will be your best bet for tracking the project's progress. |

The early unset of "Spring" here will cause a delay in the completion of this project while I deal with things whose timing is weather dependent.
But once the plowing and planting is taken care of.... |
