I know for sure that triton tech in JBC and in Hanvon is based 16-level-gray. Infact each pixel can have 16 level of gray and because you have 1 for red + 1 for blue and 1 for green (the fourth pixel is used to improve the contrast) you will have:
number of colors = 16**3 = 16*16*16 = 4096 |

Valentinka thanks again for your contribution.
I'd like to ask you, if you have the time to do it, to shoot some more comparisons DXG / JBC with different lighting conditions. Adding the ipad would be a plus but it's not indispensable One in your bed, I mean with the kind of light you use when you read before sleep. Another in outdoors. I'm probably asking too much, wouldnt like to take too much advantage of your kindess. As document you may take a text of your choice with medium-small fonts, and some colours (as much as you can). |

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/att...7&d=1332104751 that it is a deep blue (I choose this color on purpose) and the correct display is that of iPad2: a bright color on bright background: we can define "contrast" the difference of background and foreground. Obviously the algorithm used by Kindle to convert the color in gray (there are several algorithm) map this blue in a gray more dark respect the blue of the reality. The result can be different on other devices or programs. Otherwise the JBC map this blue on 4096 color space and it is a more accurate reproduction of the reality (but it is anyway a "map") and so the contrast is more real (while the contrast of Kindle are less real and more "simulated" and computed) P.s.: iPad2 shows this blue too bright. I think it is a photo defect |

I suggest to Valentinka to use the trick Prodigit and Andy said me: clicking (single click) with sylus on center of the screen you will eliminate the ghost effect.

More pictures of JBC,DXG and iPad 2 in different light conditions
I am not sure if I found good PDF file to display. And I don't know how helpful it will be with this file. If you want me to test with different one just please upload it here.
But anyway, he is what we have. Time - soon after 6 PM. Still some sunshine outdoor but not as bright as in the middle of the day. Sun started going down. Still this is nice time to read outdoor. Pictures 1 and 2 are of iPad 2 taken indoor (to get ideas about colors) since iPad 2performs pretty bad with sunshine outdoor. Pictures 3-16 were taken outdoor about the same time (around 6 PM). Pictures 17-21 were taken indoor right after pictures ourdoor. It was getting pretty dark indoor but still OK to read with some additional light. |

Seems to me a confirm: Triton needs outdoors lighting to express its potential, in colour and definition.
With direct, or very bright sunlight it will surely result better than Vizplex or standard Pearls, because the strong grey does not harm the eyes by reflecting all the light. The same happened with my Asus dr900. Medium and low light kill it. Medium light weakens most of the colours. Low light makes it way less readable than Pearl. I'm speaking for my eyes, not for everyone. Two notes: I meant the kind of light you find in bedrooms, when you read before sleeping. Usually it's a very warm one. Did you keep the ipad on low-brightness? Outside you should use it with the highest settings Last edited by lorenzoens; 03-18-2012 at 10:17 PM. |

I just saw your file, lorenzoes.
I will take more picture with it maybe later tonight (about bedtime) and tomorrow. I think you file is better for testing than mine above. Much more colors, too. Thanks! |
