Would I buy a pocket edge?
Hi, i wanted to know your opinion about getting a pocket edge.
I have a Palm TX and I used it to listen music, videos, email and to read books and comics. However the battery of the palm died and i'm looking for a replacement, because I used to read a lot with my palm I thought that a tablet would be the perfect gadget for me. First at all I don't want to spend so much money on the tablet, I mostly need a cbr and pdf reader, I'm not interested on HD videos or 3D games. When I saw the pocket edge I became interested on it cause the dual screen, I never wanted to buy a eink device because its on back and white and comic books are in color. So I think it is the perfect device for me, except for one thing, the company closed and I not sure if that is an important thing or not, there will be trouble to use it? Will I be able to dowload applications and stuff??? I just wanted to know your opinion. PS. Sorry for my poor english, i'm doing my best at learning it... |

This is tough to answer. If you are interested in a good tablet / e-reader combo then the Pocket Edge may be a good choice. The tablet can do Comic Books and PDF. However, it is still a little pricey at around $150 USD on eBay. If you are not going to make use of the e-reader you may be better off buying a cheap Android tablet. You can get a pretty decent one for under $100 USD. Look for one running at least Android 2.2 with Flash.
The Pocket Edge will do almost everything the Palm TX does and there are plenty of resources for downloading applications, books etc. I own a Pocket Edge and a full size Edge and I like them both. My son has a Pocket Edge and he likes it as well. It is a good device if you go forth with the expectation that it is not a gaming tablet but more for reading, business, education, and productivity. From your post you fit that expectation. However, it will play a few decent games. It's not all work and no play. PS: Your English is actually quite good. Thanks for your answer, I said that I didn't want to spend a lot of money to avoid comments like "you want to read comics? get an Ipad". I'm from Argentina and the tablets are very expensive, $150 for a tablet it's a gift, you can't buy a tablet for that money here. Also I own a PSP and a 3DS to play games on the go, that's why I'm not interested on playing games on a tablet.
So I guess I'm getting the pocket edge |

I didn't realize tablets were that expensive there. Here's what some other Edge owners had to say about comics:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=136430 https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...ghlight=comics I downloaded a few comic book Apps and verified they run on the PE. Droid Comic Viewer: http://www.1mobile.com/droid-comic-viewer-73917.html Esay Comic Viewer: http://www.1mobile.com/droid-comic-viewer-73917.html Fresh Comics: http://www.1mobile.com/fresh-comics-186126.html Comic Shopper: http://www.1mobile.com/comic-shopper-125108.html Dark Horse Comics: http://www.1mobile.com/dark-horse-comics-289486.html Comic Sho: http://www.1mobile.com/comic-sho-294332.html So there are some comic book Apps that work with the PE. I don't read comic books, but I do read daily comic strips on the Pocket Edge. Maybe some other owner who is more familiar with comic books on the Edge can provide more information. So, if you can get a PE at a good price and it meets your needs, I'd say go for it. You can always ask for help here if you run into any 'glitches'. Welcome to MobileRead! PS...your English is actually quite good! PSS I use mine for reading and as a tablet and have been able to find many, many apps to meet my needs...most from the suggestions of the forum members here. |

Hi there!
![]() I think you'll like the eDGe, as long as it doesn't seem too heavy to you. It's a bit bulky -- which can be a good thing. It doesn't feel fragile! ![]() Did you order a Pocket eDGe?? Enjoy! ![]() |

I use my edge as a (non-gamming) laptop replacement. I have hundreds of comics from various sources and read them on my edge. I convert all to cbz format because the edge wont load a few that were in cbr format. I use ACV (Android Comic Viewer) and it works great...I'm sure it would be great on ant android device. I recommend at least a 7 inch screen. I wish the eDGe had a bit higher resolution, some smaller word ballons can be hard to read. You must be a bit techie to truly enjoy your eDGe. I was a die hard PalmOS guy myself.

Maybe I'll make a quick review... EDIT: I jut bought the pocket edge on ebay, so I just have to wait until it arrives... Last edited by guada_sp; 03-31-2012 at 08:29 AM. |

Hello, I'm new here. I just ordered the Pocket Edge. How hard is it to update the software?

There are a few things you should be aware of before you start. 1) Make sure you get the correct update for your device - PE update for PE otherwise you WILL have big problems. 2) Test your download when you get it by opening it - if you get a message that says it is corrupt then download again. 3) If you use windows on your PC be careful when renaming the file to update.zip - windows by default does not show file extensions so you can end up with update.zip.zip which will not work. 4) If you use a USB stick make sure the update.zip is in the root directory and if it does not work first time check that it is formatted FAT or FAT32 - if that does not work try another stick. 5) Patience is a virtue. 6) If you do have problems ask here - pleas give a full description of what you did and what you saw, it helps us to help you (saying it didn't work does not help you or us). 7) Good updating. |

For what it's worth, I've had my PE for a while, and I also have a Vizio tab and now an Acer Iconia A500. I tried the HP TouchPad with ICS on it, but the battery died after a couple of weeks and it went back.
I still use my PE often even though I have two other tablets with larger screens. I especially like the folding format and find the extra cases for other tablets clunky by comparison. |
