That says it all for me. I would love to root just to try it out but I just know I would be disappointed if I root my Fire and don't hear the "halleluiah choir".

You can root it, add Google Play, add market opener and unroot it. Google Play will still be there on your gray bookshelves.

Or I could buy a device that does it all out of the box; saving me the time and hassle of having to jump through hoops.

My Galaxy Player has access to Amazon's ecosystem, Google's ecosystem, and my own customized ecosystem.

Your galaxy player has a 5" screen and cost more. What's your point?
That one device may not be the ultimate answer for everyone's needs?

For the matter of buying a different device JUST to avoid the relatively simple hoops required to get Google services (which I and many others have not found any compelling reason to have yet, by the way) I propose a more appropriate solution: Buy the Fire, and send me half the additional money that an otherwise comparable 7" tablet would have cost you, and I'LL put Google service on it for you!

My Galaxy Player was just an example.

Will you also add a mSD card slot? That's my second requirement in a tablet.

What price difference? A Google tablet with Google apps and mSD should sell for $199.

All our Fires were $150 (after Walmart gift card.)
I wasn't going to buy one at $199.

I got one of those also as a gift for someone.

As for me, I require Google Play and a card slot.

I've rooted for the google market, and for the heck of it I installed a ver of ICS on my KF. Everything is much faster. Browsing the web is so much faster using ICS standard browser. I think the Fire's front end must be a bit bloaty because the fire is more sluggish than with ICS. Having said that I have temporarily gone back until a version of ICS that supports hardware acceleration and flash are out. I may go to CM7 in the interim, but regardless rooting is a must for me.
