A Rooted Fire is Better Because...

After four months, I am not hearing as much about rooting the Fire as I expected to, but there certainly are people doing it. From those of you who have to those of us who might, why should we? Please feel free to post your root process and any associated issues as well as any benefits/pitfalls associated with a rooted Fire.

I did it to run rooted only apps that I've gotten used to on my android phone. Also, being able to install the Android Market makes if much easier to install my paid apps.

I don't see the point. It's a great device out of the box.

Beats me. My primary requirement in an Android tablet is full access to the official app store (Google Play); whether natively or via rooting. With Google about to jump into the tablet market, I'd be prone to get it over a device that requires rooting.

That's been my stand so far as well. I expected I was going to want to root it--I put Rockbox on my MP3 players, I jail-broke my daughter's iTouch--but I've not been compelled to mess with the Fire yet.

The main reason for most people is to install Android Market (now Google Player), then you can unroot.

Amazon app store is nice--I use both--but much much smaller than Market. You really miss a lot by not having market. Aside from access to more apps, it means that if you have an Android phone, you can install apps you purchased for the phone. |

Probably because a lot of us just completely deleted the Amazon stuff and loaded CM7/9.

A rooted Fire is better because... You get a better DPI range - There's something weird on the Amazon stock, once you switch over to something like CM7, it's a huge difference. Looking at the Android Market on my stock Kindle made me dizzy. You get to use regular apps - The Kindle's bar at the bottom is EXTREMELY HUGE/unlike the typical Android bar, hence we're forced to use Kindle Fire Edition applications on stock. At the end of the day, this is the most problematic issue with compatibility with the Android Market in general. You get to run tablet apps - Not mobile/phone editions. Big ones like Mint.com: Adobe Photoshop Touch: Evernote: We still don't have Hardware Acceleration, so we can't use things like Netflix or Google Chrome, but when we do finally have a way, it's going to blow away all the $500 tablets for sure. |

Keep us informed, though. If CM9 (with it's native support for button-less devices) is every fully functional and stable, I'll probably try it. |

I would not be surprised if the first kf does not get ics what with a new device forthcoming. And time flies so if it drags any longer why bother with jelly bean coming.

We will see what happens but I thought we would hear something by now with ics on the first kf but it is not much different with the wait others are experiencing also. |
