W8 on a tablet is intriguing. I would have to see how it worked. Is W8 just going to duplicate Android and iOs. If so, I don't see a reason for it on a tablet. It will cost too much for the hardware to run the Windows 8. Still the idea is intriguing.

But *only* the x86 tablets will be backwards compatible with existing windows software. As a ten-year user of both Windows TabletPCs and WindowsCE devices, it is the x86 tablet platform I'm most interested in but since Win8ARM will be getting MS Office, if the price and hardware is right I wouldn't hesitate to get one. Everything I've seen about Win8 suggests it is going to be a *very* good mobile OS--the question is how good the hardware be.

I don't see Win 8 tabs making it in the consumer market at all. Maybe business. But look how well the Playbook did...or didnt.

I'm not sure I see why Win8 shouldn't do well in the marketplace. Every preview I've read has concluded that it is very well suited to tablets and Windows is still the most prevalent consumer OS out there, which to my mind gives it a built-in advantage. If the previews turn out to be right, that is and if the hardware it's stuck onto is competitive.

I have no doubt that Windows 8 systems will be light years ahead of IOs and Android in usability and functionality. But who cares? MS is no good at marketing. Look at what they have done with Windows Mobile, after years now finally the first really attractive phones are coming to market, thanks to Nokia. Same with the XBox, took them years to be a real competitor. Windows 8 tablets won't make much of a splash when they come out, but MS is always in it for the long haul. I personally would love a full OS, with an easy to use and finger friendly interface, real multitasking, and capable of running full office and CAD programs. Oh, with 12 hour battery life, of course. 12.1" screen and maximum weight 1 1/2 pounds One can always dream. Last edited by HansTWN; 03-12-2012 at 12:05 AM. |

Metro + MS Access Runtime + 7" tablet would be pretty useful to me...

Just like DOS/Windows took over the business market first and then won over consumers, Win8 could very well find its way into everyones homes. Most people are comfortable with what they use at work.
