Actually Getting Android Market

Okay, the 20th time is the charm. This annoying thing is actually rooted. Now I want the Android Market (Google Play now--are they kidding?). The procedure for that seems harder than rooting. Does anyone know an easy way?

Crikey,,,,I have the Android Market but no icon shows anywhere so it's like installing it every time I go to use it. I need to read a book on this stuff.

Boy did I learn a lot today. If the directions don't make sense they **could** be wrong. If you can think of and easier way--just go ahead and do it-- toss the directions.

Are you using Go Launcher EX? If so, long press on one of the screens and choose "Application", then check the box for "Market". That should give you an icon shortcut on the desktop.

It threw me for a while that the app was called "Market" rather than "Android Market".

HTH

Yes, I've thrown caution to the winds and I'm using Go Launcher. It was there all along but I was expecting to see an icon on the gray bookshelves. I downloaded market opener and now I DO have one on the bookshelves. What a day!

Actually everyone made it harder than it actually is.

You need to copy three files (googleservicesframework.apk googlefeedback.apk and vending.apk)

1.Those three come in a package called market.zip and you have to unzip them on your computer.
2.Copy to the Kindle, I copied into downloads.
3. using copy and paste in ES file Ex or something similar go to favorites>phone>data>app and pasted them there.

If you are using a launcher, the market will just show up. If you are only using bookshelves, get market opener and install, icon will show up.

When you put it that way, you don't even need a video guide. I have found the video tutorials rather useless without 1.a computer to watch it on while you 2. do they stuff on your computer and 3. make adjustments on the KF
Maybe that's just me.

Also--the Android Market isn't all THAT wonderful. You can almost always get the stuff elsewhere. What I like to do is scroll thru the market on the computer then find a (trusted) alternate source for what I need on the KF (sometimes getting it for free. If necessary, I'll get it from the market. I have no idea how the other sites get the stuff for free and no one complains. I fear we will have a massive crackdown like we did with music. Until then, I'm of course willing to get the stuff for free.

Some of the legitimate sites like Getjar rely on heavily advertising to be able to offer free Apps. Others like Slideme, 1Mobile, AndroidPIT also offer paid Apps and like Amazon will sometimes offer users premium Apps for free as a way to promote their business. Expect to see more shady sites going out of business once Major ISPs to turn into copyright police by July9 (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=172280).

App piracy isn't that big of deal. Developers lose a very small amount of money, but the truth is that MOST people are paying for apps.

They take less money to make/market, and can appeal to a wide range of consumers too. It's not at all like the money that the film and movie industry is losing.

I personally do a little pirating myself, but you know, I just don't feel like buying the same game that I originally bought for my XBOX 360 for my Android/iOS devices, along with my Mac. I wish they'd let you buy apps once and play them on all of your devices. I mean, they do that with most PC/MAC software. A lot of the mobile apps I buy are $5 onwards.
