All that worry for nothing.
Have to hand it to you - just clicking on it was courageous.

Maybe someone else who has it could let me know if this is a correct assumption.
Okay, gotta get that one like now.

Thank you!

I have learned valuable lesson today. Don't follow directions. Do what makes sense. I'm rooted and trying to add Android Market which seems to be much harder than rooting. Perhaps there is a more updated procedure somewhere. So far I can't sit at the computer long enough to get this done. EEKS

Hooray! Look at you!

I used this guide here to get Android Market on. You're right; it's more complicated than rooting.
I already had the one Google file already installed from following the PC guide to rooting so at least I had that going for me.
There are Mac instructions on that page.

Exactly. It seems I always need something to fiddle with. (Instead of doing housework or laundry-mind you). I can't afford to keep buying new toys to try out so I'll just have to mess with the ones I have. My new iPhone kept me happy from Oct thru Nov. The KF kept me happy from Dec-Feb and then it got boring. I try versions of Linux but now I'm bored with that. I'll just have to find new things to do to the devices that I have. Even tho I hate Windoze, I am getting Win 7 on my laptop but that will probably only entertain me for a day. After that I have no idea what I'll do. Probably try Cyanogen 7 or 9 on the Kindle. I haven't jailbroken the iPhone so there's always that. I just have to find a new hobby or something. WOW lost it's charm 'round this time last year.

Summer's coming. At least then I'm out of the house for a few hours a day swimming.

I don't think OTA rootkeeper can restore root on the Fire after an os update although it does on other devices. What it's mostly useful for on the Fire is temporarily unrooting so you can watch Amazon video. But even that is of little value nowadays, because root is not really needed for very much beyond being able to get the Market and google calendar. After the last update, I rooted, reinstalled the google calendar sync adapter (already had the Market and did not lose it), and then unrooted. The superuser app gives root access to the couple of apps that need it so I do not need to manually root/unroot to do stuff.

Thanks, I didn't know that. Glad to know that ahead of time.

kindlewater root method...

...does exactly what it says it will do: it roots your device. What it doesn't do is install a new app called "root", install a new operating system interface ala Go Launcher, or do things that are super obvious right at first.

What should have changed is your boot process... if you power down and then reboot your kindlefire after performing the kindlewater root:

you should boot to a logo that is like a yellow caution sign for drivers with a flame in the middle: this is a logo for something called firefirefire. along the bottom of the screen (the side with the power button) should read the words: Hit power to enter recovery

and of course when you do hit the power button, it will turn orange, and then your kindlefire will enter recovery mode, which in this case is a program called CWM by JCase. In it, your kindle looks kinda like an old dos machine only you can navigate the red text menu choices with your finger on the touch screen.

Beyond this point, I haven't gone. I still need a guide to help me out with flashing a ROM of an updated version of Android such as Cupcake or Ice Cream Sandwich, but I haven't gotten that far yet.

I do think the kindlewater app is both super simple (awesome!) and likely to stump people because it does require a reboot before the changed bootmode and presence of the "recover" app are seen.

anyway, just my two cents.
And, I too am a big device-fiddler. But when I'm not doing that I'm swimming about 1.25 - 2 miles a day. because there has to be a reason to go outside...
