why did you choose the M92 over pocketbook 912?

hey guys, I am looking for a larger ebook reader, there seem to be only a few options out there on the market.

So what made you choose the M92 over pocketbook 912? |

			In short: this review.

The M92 1.6 firmware works acceptably well for academic papers. The M92 has a "hide margins" zoom mode, which I find invaluable for two-column papers. Additionally, it seems as if the M92 is a lot more open for external developers than the PB9XX. |

For me it was the difference in overall speed and especially during annotating, shown in this video: http://youtu.be/jAkDyIvClLA

Then i searched the net and found this article about the different processors of the two eReaders: http://www.edn.com/article/517594-Th...er_paradox.php And this fits nicely with the review. The third aspect for me was the scribbling directly into PDFs. The fourth aspect that sold me, are the confirmed software developments in the pipeline (yellow): https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Boox_M92_wishlist |

It's true that the latest PB firmwares haven't been rooted, but I haven't found that to be a problem when developing for the devices. PB provides an SDK, and their UI software looks in the user-accessible partitions for configuration files, dictionaries, themes, and programs to run. The system seems to be purposely designed to allow user customization. So, I'm curious about why the Boox devices are considered to be more open. Is it because they can be rooted?

I don't get the stuff about M92 being open either. How can you create a custom firmware or modify the existing one? Where is the firmware's source code? I can't find it in their git-repository: https://github.com/onyx-intl - only the sdk and a couple of tools in onyx-opensource.

PB uses homegrown closed source library libinkview for application development whereas onyx uses QT framework. PB does not care about compatibility of the changes they make to this proprietary library. The application may stop working properly and you will need to wait ages when PB will release new version of the SDK to fix it. Onyx develops their SDK on github and you may build it yourself after every change they make to it.

PB 912 is almost identical to 903. They differ by presence of 3G support in the 903.

Well, 622 has been announced, so it makes sense to also expect a 922.
