I just had a gut-wrenching 15 minutes! I went into the kitchen and noticed one of our emergency LED lights on the table - with the back off - with the battery missing! One of those small flat watch batteries. And Stella under the table.

Immediate panic mode ensued - with visions of driving to the emergency vet clinic for X-Rays, surgery at midnight, kitten with stitches, credit card blinking red, etc. Stomach filled with acid & head began to pound.

Then I calmed down and started going over the kitchen floor on my hands & knees with a flashlight, Stella watching me. I FOUND IT! Under the stove ....

Going to have a tall drink now. Then will ask Stella:
1. How the hell did she get the back off the light? I need a screwdriver to do that.
2. Why the hell did she take the back off the light? Do lithium batteries smell like food?
3. When the hell is she going to grow up & sleep all the time?

Sigh ....

Be back after mixing that drink ....

Gotta love pets. They bring joy and happiness and the occasional moment of panic. I am glad that Stella is ok.

Before going to bed last night, I noticed the rice cooker was just about empty and wanted to make some fresh rice for our breakfast. I pressed the little button on the rice dispenser twice to make four cups of rice. This morning I woke up to rice soup!

Having grown up in "meat and potatoes" country, and lived half my life in a "sticky rice" zone; I find it hard to sympathize. I want hashbrownswith my bacon and eggs for breakfast!

That's where I took my basic training. I don't remember the grits, but since they were part of my life growing up they wouldn't have been impressed on my memory.

Now you've got me wanting some. It's been quite a while since I've had grits. Folks don't seem to eat them like they used to.

There's good grits and there's bad grits... All depends upon the seasoning; sugar grits or salt and butter grits. One works much better than the other for use as wall paper paste.

Of course... it could be 'poi.'

Ha! Nobody around here would be caught dead putting SUGAR in their grits! Butter and salt and pepper all the way, although quite a few kids in my family have had cheese grits as an everyday breakfast. My very favorite way to eat grits, though, is in shrimp and grits. Love love love it.

( Twice my Kindle Fire autocorrected "grits" into "trite.")

When I first moved to the south, I visited for job interviews. One was a breakfast interview, where I was presented with a plate of eggs, sausage, and what looked to me like a bowl of gritty runny mashed potatoes with a pat of butter on top. My introduction to grits!

Better make that Confederate TV shows... Us Yankees never eat the stuff!

Think 'Cream of Wheat' breakfast cereal with all the flavor removed.

Imaging taking the least flavorful part out of a kernel of corn, boiling it into submission, and serving it as a side dish... As I said before, it makes a great alternative to wall paper paste! Here's a good intro.

Is it porridge made of maize instead of oats? Soft?

Adding lots of butter and salt might make it a bit like mushy popcorn? yum!
